yeah I want to see torque figures and area under curve, Thats what really means something.
I would love to see some of these engine dynoed. expect to see some hearts broken as massive figures just dont seem to stack up like they promised.
It would seem if some one was told that they had 150 and some one elses is faster then they must have 180 and so on . soon we will have 450 hp freestyle boats. never let the facts get in the way of a claimed hp figure

At what RPM? Is it useful there?
IMO, it's not saying much.

2-stroke superbikes of the late 80's squeezed 165HP out of 500cc engines. In the late 90's that went up to over 200HP. But it's at such high RPM that it would never be useful in a transmission-less Jetski driveline.

they've come a long ways since the 90's. a 66e should have a very broad, usable power range. either way, wouldn't it be nice to associate what people thing is the best all around motor to a hp and tq number?

dyno show torque..... the dyno has a water brake. while what you say is a valid point, but you don't have to load the engine until a certain rpm. regardless. it will be the controlled test with no variances.

Let me know how this works for you.

This is where the issue lies on a water brake. Say you want to start the pull at 4000rpm. So you apply load at 3500rpm and want to roll into it so you're at WOT & loaded when you hit 4k.
Problem is, the engine won't pull the load at 3500, or if you do apply a load it can pull through, once it's hit's the pipe it screams to red line too quickly to get accurate data. It makes it really hard to duplicate pulls and consistent numbers.

Take a look at the videos what were posted for the EPIC ignition.

Just a thought but your concern of the motor screaming to redline may very well be dealt with by using a weighted flywheel considerably heavier than the ones being used for freestyle. I've seen cranks and flywheels weighted to make the power of a 2 stroke mx bike more tractable and smooth allowing a rider to use the full potential of an engine on a slippery, muddy or loose based track. Just a suggestion but what do i know. I like brownies too!!!

Let think about it
a triple cylinder runabout motor from a race boat makes about 260 hp is what we were told.
Thats with one pipe per cylinder and a much greater space between the cylinders adding to a huge advantage in the transfer port shape and volume.
As well as a much larger and better directed reed system, with side draft carbs
same msd ignitions and 48 novis or full rectums and they were able to rev out being a race engine.

And now we are saying a twin cylinder 701 based engine with only 180mm spacing between the cylinders and a bigger bore so hugely comprimised transfers and a single pipe system is making 200hp plus.
Sorry I dont believe it. Show us some dyno figures

Who said anything about a 701 based engine making 200HP? (other than that one 8mm stroker a few years back)

I have seen it banted around on here and other forums that there 10,12 mm stroker is making 200 hp because there engine builder told them it is

:lmao: If your engine builder is feeding you HP numbers, it's time to start looking for a different one.
