Never had a problem getting my lanyard in after a hard wipeout...

Same here. I've ridden in big surf, rough surf, hurricane surf, etc and never had a problem. Yeah it takes a couple extra seconds to clip back on and yes, you will get pounded by the waves, but it's MUCH better than watching your ski ride off across the ocean by itself or rocket into one of your riding buddies or hit someone on the shore. IMO the pros far outweigh the cons here.

Losing a ski is one thing, but I'd be worried about the liability of having a runaway ski injure or even kill someone. If your ski injures someone, you can almost guarantee a lawsuit will follow. Can you afford a 10k lawyer and a 100k+ settlement? If your ski kills someone, and the investigation turns up a bypassed safety switch, especially in a state where it is the law to run a lanyard, could you be charged with involuntary manslaughter? And you would probably still have a civil suit on top of that. It isn't worth losing your assets over a 20 cent zip ty.

Liability, assets, hitting a boat, or the shore are one thing.

My kids spend the majority of the day playing in the water...

You clowns saying run a zip tie, I feel sorry for the innocent victims you'll claim someday. POS! Worried about clipping a $5 lanyard where as a kinked throttle cable could kill an innocent kid on the beach, cause you were a chicken:):):):) and afraid of a wave. Makes sense.... If your afraid of a wave, shouldn't be there in the first place IMO.

Not to mention if it did come to that, good luck explaining yourself in court.

"Judge, I was worried about getting pummeled by a wave, so I disregarded everyone else's safety cause I'm a biotch." Lemme know how that goes for ya.

I ran a lanyard even when it wasnt cool. Dont like ridin with the zip tie crew (end up towin those guys in most of the time).

Having a kid myself who loves the water, lemme ask a simple question for you saying it's no big deal to zip tie your tether.

Say your at a lake/beach for the day hanging out, all of a sudden a runaway ski collides with your child killing them instantly or seriously hurting them. Are you gonna brush it off as, mehhh it's ok that guy was afraid of a double overhead wave, or are you gonna be beside yourself freaking out? Odds aren't that good that it will happen, but it could. Pull your head out of your ass.

So wearing it on my right hand is working out pretty well for me

I didnt start this thread to argue, or to brag about being a bad ass on a ski. I simply was fed up with yanking the lanyard out and wanted a solution. I dont know if being a man has anything to do with a lanyard, but I can see why people would be upset. It is sort of taking other safety into your own hands. Stuff can happen, and its wrong to make the chances of it higher.

That being said, i did mention how my lanyard got wrapped around my throttle and held it open in this thread. Had I not been on the side of the ski in the right posisiton to unwrap it, it would have been BAD. Almost positive would have broke than layard at my wrist end and stayed attached and on with the ski leaving me. This is probably a huge fluke, as it was the very first time its happened to me. Just saying :):):):) happens, and no reason to go calling names over the internet and what not. Unless you go yelling at every ddue that drinks a beer and hops on his ski too? But I can imagine if people popped their mouths off like that, they might get mobbed?

I have broken a lanyard before because it got wrapped up in the handlebars. And the ski kept going. Also you have to be careful what topics you post here because there is always going to be controversy and people on the other end of the spectrum.

i suppose for super populated areas yes wear a lanyard

here in africa we ride in lake coves where there are no beaches or anyone to get hit if my ski rockets off to the shore its my fault but it always circles around and picks me up(im a lazy swimmer)

and same goes on the beach we have a dedicated jetski beach where no swimming is allowed and there is never more than 1-3 guys out there

im all for a lanyard but i also like the freedom

i guess its where you ride and whats around you
also big thing

maintenance you should know if your cable is good or not and if your spring return works well keep it fresh and you should never have a problem

I had a throttle cable get jammed up under my steering plate and go WFO, also had one sneak its way under my fuel tank and would go wide open when the bars where turned to the right.

Have you ever even ride surf? Or a overhead wave? Didn't think so.. So you have no idea what a double overhead wave could do to you....sack up one day and try it instead of doing circles at your local lake .And people don't play on the beach where i ride. Loosing your ski to the the ocean from a big wave its allot more likely then having it take of into the sunset.. Its not about being scared. Its about getting your ski fired in time before the next wave possibly swamps or sinks your ski.

And i don't do anything big anywhere near somewhere where there are kids playing or people that could possibly get hurt to begin with... The only time i run a ziptie is in the surf when sometimes every second counts.

kenny you have no :):):):)ing clue of what a wave will do to you. NO CLUE. dont talk about :):):):) you dont know about. in critical double to triple overhead west coast surf, your lanyard could kill you. chicken :):):):) my ass.

im not saying dont use a lanyard at all, i dont see why you wouldnt use one at a lake but, when the waves are huge, you dont want to be stuck messing with it. i almost drowned my self messing with one.

if you rode with us you would know there's no little kids running around on the beaches.... your analogy sounds like something a cop would say.
