Why isn't engine builders making exhaust?

Just came to think about it, maybe its me but isn't it a little strange that none of the companies that makes big HP billet (and cast) engines, dosent make a exhaust system that matches their displacement/timing?

Blowsion and Thrust both publicaly said they are working on a pipe. And there are several small fish working on stuff.! Facebook has a lot of cool projects... To much bandwagon drama queens on the x I suppose

No i don't, but DASA and Xscream have made billet engines for like 8 years or more, but no exhaust to match their engines (YET)
Well i don't give much for the PFP exhaust, as someone who envented the wheel again, is a Type 9 pipe, chopped and layer down instead of siting upright. its a good exhaust not doubt, I'm running one myself. But i think the RPR carbon pipe is more innovative, than the PFP :)
Anyone seeing the same resemblance as me in the pics LOL

The PFP as I understand it started out as a Type 9 Chamber. The Type 9 was designed for the higher horsepower Race Motors. It was used as a baseline and then the design went from there to meet the needs of these 1000cc motors that were showing up.

Does the general public need any more power than the current 1200's paired with a powerfactor or RRP pipe produces?

If anything I'd like to see a new stamped wetpipe developed that will make similar power to the current products and be in the $800 range with water box.

Does the general public NEED it? No.... Do they WANT it, yes. So they will make it!

Why a new wetpipe and not a new dry pipe in that price range?

Let's be realistic, no one is going to make a quality dry pipe & water box combo for 800

I just don't think it is feasible. There is a reason the Powerfactor is what $1500+.
Dry pipes are just too complex to build, especially for a company that is wanting to create a "new" pipe.

Assuming they will use a proprietary exhaust manifold, which either requires billet which = expensive for the end user or cast which = major investment up front for the company. Quantities are so limited in this sport they will still have to charge a large margin to ever recoup the initial cost.

Then the chamber itself, you have double the initial tooling cost for an inner and outer chamber, more than double the assembly cost to weld the chambers.

And this all assuming they don't spends thousands in prototype & development work.

Nynja invested the cash for a wet pipe completely independent of FPP which was a good step in the right direction, but they missed the mark. I feel you either need to be at the high dollar, high horsepower end of the spectrum (PFP, RRP and probably Thrust and Xscream) or at the more budget focused end to move a lot of less expensive products to rec riders..the Nynja pipe (and likely the new TNT pipe) is going to likely fall somewhere in between, costing nearly as much as the PFP and not making quite as much horsepower. If its going to cost $1k+ it MUST make big power, if you make a well performing wet pipe, keep it in stock and price it under $800 people will buy it and won't care that it doesn't make power comparable to a PFP or RRP pipe.
$600, crappy looking, used B pipes, fly off the shelves literally minutes after being posted. It's a bit of a gamble but if somebody put the cash up an didn't attempt to make it all up in the first 6 pipes, they could take the market away from FPP.

Here is an interesting read, somewhat related to the discussion.

This looks like a good reason for people to get into the pipe business.

"Factory Pipe (707-463-1322, factorypipe.com) employs 43 in the 42,000-square-foot plant it has occupied for 22 years at 150 Parducci Rd. Sales doubled to $9 million in 2011 from 2009 and are projected to do so again in the next two to three years, according to Mr. Liberty, 55. The company was targeting sales of more than $10 million last year.

“Right now, our production capacity is the limit of our sales,” he said. “If we could make more, we could sell more.”"
