Why jet skis kill...a good but frustrating read

That article is as crazy as all the GUNS KILL articles IMO. I do think that just like a motorcycle license there should be a water test and a written test on PWC's before you can oporate one. Its not PWC's that kill, it is ignorant common senseless people.

The best morning news show I ever heard was based on a story in TX. where a little boy went on a field trip with the boy scouts to a shooting range on an Army base or something. They tought them how to handle guns and even let them shoot a gun.
The mother of one of the kids was filing criminal charges against the Scout leader. She called in on a radeo show telling her story. The guys on the show said "I dont see a problem, they were teaching him gun safety" . The woman said "guns equip people to be killers" One of the radeo guys said "you are equipped to be a prostitue, are you one".
Perfect comeback to an idiot liberalist.

Just because its on water they think you can not get hurt

Grow up America and take resposibility for your actions

The reality is some people are to stupid to ride skis

couldnt of said it better myself!!

its just another step closer to lazy stupid people having to do less and less to operate heavier and faster skis. sure putting a rudder on will help all this go away, or maybe it will make dumb people take more risks now that they "feel" they have better control?

What can go wrong now- it parallel parks itself and the onboard computer will watch out for any danger. what a relief now I don't even have to pay attention. thats where its headed.

i can see it now: people blame the car manufacture bc they didn't look and ran over a small child as teh car parallel parked itself. :usa2: the american way.

Hey look at me! Look what i got! Look what i can do! car does it for me! :squash: opps! car didn't tell me there was a man laying in the road there. NOT MY FAULT.

It is this diffusion of responsibility that is killing people. Like how a girl can get raped in broad daylight on a busy street. We are lulled (or lolled on the interweb) into this constant comfort zone, where our next meal is a drivethru away and our cars park themselves. Oh and our radios stations know exactly what we want to hear next.

I think anyone who thinks standups are dangerous should tell the next guy they see doing a flatwater bf to get off the water bc they MUST be out of control. Afterall, jetskis were not MEANT to do that. good grief!

This whole thing reminds me of an article i read somewhere about how if we switched from driving on the right side of the road to the left side every five or ten years there would be less traffic accidents. Also if the roads were MORE dangerous, we would all be safer because we would be more careful. I am sure there is a word for this syndrome. And i am sure it ain't Stockholm.

A couch with a complete noob driver is a VERY DANGEROUS instrument.

In this article, everyone was a rookie driver. I feel really bad for the mom that killed her daughter. Very sad.

I stopped reading the article after the first story.

If you have a large motor powered craft pointed towards someone, common sense tells you the vehicle is going to remain in motion due to the inertia built up...if it hits that person its going to hurt them.

Same as what would happen with a car, air plate, motorcycle, atv.

IT just never ceases to amaze me that a 16 year old kid can get on a watercraft with no previous experience and kill somebody....

....and the PWC gets blamed

Versus A kid who gets in a car with previous experience and kills somebody, and nobody blames the car manufacturer....

Stupid, you wouldn't let a kid ride a motorcycle without out a motorcycle license would you? Then why are people riding PWC's without them?

Any motor vehicle is dangerous without knowing what you're doing.

I would like to see the driving records of these people. Willing to bet the ones that had at least a few years of driving had accidents and tickets.

Nobody teaches these idiots the dangers. We also as riders realize that most of these stories are from the holiday / weekend yahoos that just want to look cool a couple times a year.

For every 100 "accidents" of people colliding into people, docks, boats etc there is only one who cries it's the machines fault. Unfortunately they often have the loudest voices

Ill stink on the media and the soap box kings and queens for carrying things too far in the wrong direction for a story. It's no different than another media type trying to make "news" in another genre. Guns, motorbikes, even workplace safety has gotten blown out of proportion. Instead of teaching thatyou are responsible for your own safety and that of those around you, they chit on the mfg for not protecting you from yourself!

It even gets close to home, a few years back my cousin trashed his crotch rocket after he got head shake when setting it down after a 100mph wheelie. My uncle was furious that the bike he paid for didn't have a steering dampener to prevent this.. Ummm maybe you shouldn't be doing wheelies at 100mph? And if you choose to on a bike without the dampener understand you might be on the pavement..

If you don't know how to operate it you shouldn't be using it.

That seadoo never hurt anybody until YOU got on it.
