Or maybe... insurance companies should be forced to give insurance to fat people with diabetes because there weren't sufficient labels on twinkies and fried chicken products explaining how much fat is in them......

51% of the country today is not willing to take responsibility for their own stupidity....

The other 49% are just racist....

there will always be that select few that abuse things like this. and ruin it for the rest of us. there is no need for a boater safety course. unless you are going to rent i guess. but that still wont help the drunk college kid who is on mommies sea-doodoo. maybe a helmet law? stop painting skis black/blue? people can go days about safety and throw numbers out there. just like guns..... you always see the negative numbers but how many studies have you seen on the amount of times guns have saved people??????? just sounds like this guy is a captain killjoy whos father never played catch with him to me

what if you´re about to be in a motorcycle accident. and by the chock you let go of the bars. and the blame the manufacturer because the bike would not turn with your hands of the bars.
if you ride pwcs you should know that it will not turn when you are of the gas.

and standups are not as dangerous. because no one of thoose kids would have ever been able to ride one at a higher speed.

Frustrating

How about a study to find the stats on how many accidents/injuries/deaths were involved with stand ups vs. couches? Then we might be getting somewhere. Although I have lost a close friend in a river accident due to reckless operation by very experienced riders. After that occurred, our whole riding group changed the way we operate as for as proximity to each other. I know that the statistics would bear out that couches are more accident prone.
When someone in your group loses their life, your jet skiing experience is changed forever. (RIP Philip Maddox Sr)

The article says how dangerous jet skis are because they are not equipped with brakes. Well, boats don't have brakes either.

But the article did mention that boats have the prop slowing them down.

How's that work for jetboats? I don't see that dork advocating a ban of them.

Typical Jet Ski Hater. Poor research, Skewed facts. In my years riding I have personally used my jet ski to save two different people on separate accounts. That kind of info never makes the media.

Agreed, and that's because you're cool!

This is interesting (Turbo, Waterworld stole that idea):

Central Intelligence Agency
Special Activities Staff - Maritime Branch

Maritime Branch is primarily composed of former Navy SEALs from both "regular" blue water SEAL Teams and the counterterrorist DEVGRU, and USMC Force Reconnaissance personnel. Maritime Branch personnel receive training similar to that of Ground Branch operators, but with a greater training emphasis on amphibious/waterborne activities. Maritime Branch operators receive training in conducting operations such as jet-ski reconnaissance and hostage rescue operations along hostile shorelines.

One example of these activities occured during the early 80's, when Maritime Branch personnel trained Nicaraguan Contras to use of high speed boats for attacks against Sandanita shipping. They also stood by to launch underwater sabotage attacks against ships docked in Managua's harbor. Another example occurred in early 1991. This time Maritime Branch operators instructed US military SOF in the use of modified jet skis for a possible hostage rescue mission during Operation Desert Storm.

(and that columnist is former military to boot)

There must not be many successful product liability cases against PWC MFGs. Adding a rudder would be cheap compared to increasing mfg insurance.

HA HA Thanks Suzie where do I send the check? Actually I think I was just in the right place at the right time. The point being that water craft are the ultimate life saving vehicles. Many law enforcement and life guard agencies all use them but you never hear about those facts in these articles written by these haters.

Adding a rudder would be a bad idea. A rudder would be like a big knife hanging off the bottom of a ski. Water craft are some of the safest vessels on the water because there have no exposed propellers or rudders. There's just no short cut to learning how to opperate them correctly.

People are dying from blunt force trauma. Rudders dont have to be sharp or ridged in order to work well enough for this application.

how about just having "How not to be a dumba$$ 101" for anyone who is a first time buyer/renter. seems like that should do the trick

since advances in modern medicine has made leaps and bounds in extending life expectancies, it looks like evolution and the survival of the fittest is taking new routes to weed out the dumbest.. F'd up they take out a few innocents along the way.
