Why you dont backflip a square

It was really nice out today, had just watched my buddy land his first two backies ever and i guess I was just feeling it. i have never pulled a backflip dont have enough power or skill for that matter but i was feelin it you know? I had the perfect wake and everything so i went for it,came out of my footholds ski landed upside down and broke off my fuel filler door and hood popped loose,no big deal, motor sucked in a bit of water,so we towed it back in. When we got back and pulled hood off I had quite a surprise, broke the handlepole bracket and broke all the way thru the hull too.Fail.IMG_1254.jpgIMG_1253.jpgIMG_1252.jpg

I have felt you're pain, only mine was in blue...and I got mine on vid.

Surprising how consistant the damage is from one ski to another. Good luck on the repair. I stripped my entire hull down and hung it upside down from the ceiling of my shop so I could pop my head up inside the hull to perform the repair.

Strong work! Time for a SN nose job. Or, Strip it down and reinforce the chit outta that whole bracket/nose of ski. I think I layed 3 layers of 1708 biax across that area on my old square. I'd prolly go 4-5 layers with lots of overlap to surrounding areas for a one time repair that u can forget about...unless u try this trick again without a limiting rope. Nice try though, and way to show off those big balls.

Yeah a limiting rope would have helped out for sure, but I never thought I would try a backflip on it.I want to give the whole ski a nose job just not sure how to go about it,there looks to be a metal reinforcement under the pole bracket on the inside. I have the resin ready just need to order some heavier glass all i have is 6 ounce s glass here.If I want to rocker the nose while I am reinforcing the pole bracket area what would be the best way to do it?

I've never rockered a ski but there's several threads with this done. The easiest would be to fill the nose with foam and then cut the bottom deck then mold and shape the exposed foam to desired rocker and then glass it in with lots of filling and sanding to make it presentable, or do Sportfish/Kevin's area 51 mod (see build thread) which is more technically difficult, but prolly a more solid method that would withstand abuse better. It's tomato-tomaato sort of thing. To each his own.

looked up the area 51 build looks like he just made a bunch of small cuts and bent it up to meet the hull kinda like cannibal did on his sxr build. I dont want to split the decks on the ski so i guess I will worry about fixing the pole first and try to get a few more weeks out of the ski before the season ends.

Limiting ropes will prevent this kind of damage in most cases.

I ripped the whole handlepole bracket right out of my old RN hull before I installed a limiting rope myself.

Well it's always a bummer to mangle your ski I do not know too many people that like breaking their ski and playing with fiberglass But on the other hand you had the Balls to try and flip prop's to you. At least when you fix it you won't have to worry about the hand pole/nose breaking aging right? I am building a square I plan on flipping rolling crashing and hopefully not breaking too bad. So my ideas on that are to reinforce the hell out of the nose from topside and inside hull. (YamaSlut) has good points about reinforcing I agree with his ideas on reinforcing skis who care about and extra 5-10 pounds if it keep's it from falling apart. If the end result is too heavy and you can't jump, flip or roll it anymore well guess you need more CC's. After I glass the hell out of it, I plan on taking a piece of 1/8" billet flat plate cutting it to same size as pole bracket and drill whatever holes you need and put in the inside of the hull so you can sandwich hand pole to the hull. Hand pole, fiberglass, 1/8" billet plate i would say its safe to say i do not think you will ever have a problem and yes get some limiting straps and I would build up the hood seal lip, I think it would be a lot smarter to do it on the actual hood instead of the hull. After you feel it's good to go get back out and:brap:
