Will freestyling become a 'thing of the past"?

With all the "freestyle" superjets out there not getting really ridden hard...i believe there will be plenty of parts floating around long after manufactures stop producing them....id say one out of five superjets fits this mold of not getting ridden hard.

I bet you Yamaha isn't going to create a whole new engine just to go into a stand up jet ski....

They just made a completly reshaped bottom deck after 17 years. :scratchchin: You think they did this only to have 2 strokes end production soon and abandon the standup market? I don't

I agree!!! If you look at the recent history of MX bikes-anything is possible. The 1st YZF400's were complete turds and the very next year brought the 426 which was a kinda turd and then the 450 which is supreme domination!!!

Bombardier ( seadoo) already has the direct injected two stroke motors for the snomobiles that get great mileage and use a lot less oil than conventional 2strokes 2strokes have been a dying breed for some time, but they have their uses. The emissions is the main problem they face from environmental groups. They are a easy target by the tree huggers the mfrs havent had to update the technology untill recently. yamaha finally updating the hull is a step in the right direction all it takes is the sales of the new boats to show that there is a market for them. I cant see PWC's dying out anytime soon. But with fuel prices i think that the size of the boat will come into play. the 1500cc monsters that are out there wont be as appealing to consumers when they have to fill the 15 gallon tanks twice a day.

the snowmobile market has already been hit by the fuel prices. and bombardier (ski-doo) has a 2-stroke plan.

I never once said anything about the 2 strokes going out of production. And making a new bottom deck isn't nearly as expensive as creating an engine from scratch that will be compact enough and still have enough power.

Are we there yet?

Have you seen the latest four strokes coming out of japan these days?:Eyecrazy: OMG! gobs of power and torque! and there compact! Remove tranny, direct drive off the crank, no expansion chamber needed. The biggest prob I think they would have would be silencing them. but heck they're getting better at that every year.

Don't get me wrong I love two-strokes they are alot easier and cheaper to work on. Part of the reason I don't moto anymore was cost. FYI if you guys think skiing is costly now. Man, wait til the four stroke comes in to play. If you think mixin oil in the gas was expensive wait until!

Even building a modern 450 top end has become cheap. The 1st top end on my 02 CRF450 was nearly 400.00, the last top end kit on my 05 CRF450 was 159.00. If u look at the Honda 450 motor and back out the trans-there ain't nothin there and it ways TONS less than my Lamey. If u compare raw pull of my 828 Lamey vs a 450 MX bike-the bike is real close if not stronger/harder pull w/almost 1/2 the cc's.

With all due respect Gil, that has very little to do with the motors and every bit to do with the difference between a transmission + tire and a jetpump, which is TERRIBLY inefficient.
