will gas prices effect how often you ride this year?

last year i did not take my ski boat out as much due to gas prices..:grumble: this year i'm sure it will even be tighter. ski will still be going out a lot as long as i can scratch the two nickels together, just have to cut back on other expences :ugh2:lucky for most of us here we live really close to the duck pond... i would not mind $5.00 gas if we had waves??:swordfight:

The sucky thing is I have positioned myself to not be effected by this crap but it still will!! I live 1 mile from the ramps and I drive a paid off Honda Civic 5 speed with no A/C. (cost $15 to fill when I bought it, now $45!!!)

But 300++ per month in fuel and oil for jet skiing is really freaking me out.

We need to invent a hydrogen fuel cell ski with an electric motor! Talk about instant torque. Prolly weigh a ton and PIA to find fuel but no gas! Better yet lets convert what we got over to the 85% ethanol flex fuel and we can run on mostly moonshine not dino juice.

Actually, I think I will be riding less this year - but only because I will be spending more time going hiking the Pacific Northwest with my three boys.
I'd like to climb Mt Adams this year, and Mt Rainier next spring, so I got lots of non-ski stuff to do.

If you work for say Exxon Mobile, they only made around 90 billion in profits last year. If you worked in the market and dealt in oil futures, you could stand to make good money if the price goes up.

Im putting a hitch on my Toyota Corolla-39 MPG. Parking the Nissan Titan- 6 MPG. Hope someone steals the Titan.

6mpg? we get 10-14 mpg towing our 6500 lb boat + trailer, and that's UPHILL. Driving to the Southern Fried Freeride last year we averaged 15-16 mpg towing our double trailer with 3 skis on it.

Gas prices won't affect us too much, but it will probably affect our friends as we foot the gas bill last year and most of the food and beer. They're gonna have to start chipping in to ride the boat this year... :moon::moon:

I'll probably ride at my Dad's lake house more since it's only a half hour ride away and not go to the beach as much .

1 trip to the beach costs $50 in fuel for my van and $10 to launch plus a tank for the SJ $15 .
So $75 for a couple hours of surf is still worth it but I might go less .

I am already thinking of cuting back... :( It probably means that I won't make any freerides again this year. I only live 5 mins from the launch ramp so that helps. What doesn't help is increasing engine capacity from a 650 to 800 cc's and from a single to dual carbs.

Here is a little trick an old hippy showed me at the pump. When you get done filling up you car/truck/whatever. First release the handel. Flip the switch down or press up inside the nozzle rest to shut off the computer. Then squeeze the handel again and lift up the hose to get all the gas out. I keep saying I am going to mneasure it one day but never do. I am guessing a few ounces of gas comes out of the line.

You do this over a lifetime and you will get a free tank of gas!

Another trick I did when I lived back home in WV. We have state inspection stickers that cost around 20 bucks to get your vehicle inspected. Every vehicle is required to be inspected.

If mine would expire in October, I would wait until after 10/31 to get it renewed. Most people get it renewed before it expires, that would be sometime in the month of October. Well the inspection garage will then put another sticker on the vehicle that will expire in October of the next year.

I wait until the first of November or a few days after to get a sticker put on my truck. So the next year when I have to renew the inspection sticker, it will have to be in the month of November. So I do the same deal again waiting until December first to get my inspection sticker. Then they will put a December sticker on my truck.

After 12 years of doing this, you get a free sticker! Granted they only cost around 20 bucks but it is the principal that I am cheating the system!

One down side is that if you get caught driving on an expired sticker, the cops will pull you over and give you a ticket. However all you have to do is to get the vehicle inspected and take the ticket to the police station and show them. They will then rip up the ticket. I try not to go a week into the next month without getting a new sticker. I usually only wait a day or two. Plus I know the local guy who will "just slap one on" my truck. That is illegal, they are actually supposed to do an inspection. They cracked down a few years ago. but it has gone back to the friend of a friend help me out and give me a sticker deal. Some garages were running a racket and telling peopel they needed a bunch of work and hoping the people would get the work done there. Especially since they are supposed to scrape off the the old inspection sticker and if you fail, place a failed sticker on the vehicle.

Well I still like the fact that by just waiting one day, I can get a newer sticker.

Gas prices won't really stop me from riding this summer. However going back to school and having only one income in our family will probably put a minor dent in my riding. But I would rather get back in school and get it done with so that I can move on with my life and be able to do more riding later when I have a real job.

Gas prices wont affect my riding though.

I am switching to 87...even if I have to drop my compression down. The last 8 years have SUCKED for gas prices....while the Oil companies make record profits......we get screwed. :moon:
