I just can not get motivated to load this on anything. I think I'm gonna do some Linux setups today and maybe load 7 later on a older P4 laptop I have that currently has no OS.

I don't know man.....I am hearing it is just Vista with a cleaned up front side, hence the 30% increase in performance.

Vista can be tweaked to gain the same 30% but MS had to change names to save face.

And now it has its own new set issues and more crap to tinker with that 99% of users have zero use for.

So far I gotta think that is not true at all. It no longer uses MBR and it adds a 200MB partition that communicates with the motherboard bios during boot.

It is very new and very different except for maybe what we see.

I never thought I would be one of those geeks screaming for the good old days of Windows 98 but I think I am really gonna miss XP. It is just hard to beat its smallness and simplicity and it works perfectly with everything I have ever ever done.

That post looks exactly like what everyone was saying when xp came out. XP was a super-bitch when it first came out, just like vista is now. Just kinda funny lookin back.

I know I know. But we were not freaking out about it the way were are about this. Vista is a massive pig...no doubt about it.

It can be tamed but they should have not shipped this way.

Yeah I agree, It is rediculous. You'd think they would've at least tried to make it possible for people to use it on existing machines. Oh well, guess the owners of the world don't need to stop and ask what the inhabitants want.

I installed it on an extra laptop at work today, looks suspiciously like Vista to me, just a very slightly changed interface, like they removed a couple of things and that's it.

Not impressed.

I think MS is going to have to come up with something dramatic to hush all the naysayers.

OMG! I vaguely remember that.

I'm spending the day tomorrow loading and tweakin Ubuntu 8.10, gOS (some former google pepes spin on Linux), and maybe 7.....although that is on the bottom of my list.

I have also completely converted over to free OpenOffice and I love it!!!

Yea that is the sweet combo no doubt. How do you like SP3? I have never installed it on anything.

I have been reading about Linux mint too.

hey matt what are the tweaks for vista to make it run better? Any links for good reading on doing it?

I've also been trying to figure out what doesnt need to be running constantly since vista seems to think it needs every program in the world to run at startup but cant figure out which ones should stay.

Put in a DOS bootable floppy and type in "fdisk"...
...or, if you want to get fancy, boot up from an XP or Ubuntu bootable CDs and go from there... "must kill da Vista"...

I still regret I allowed my wife to "recycle" the original box with all 6 floppies and two fat books in it. I think the "Turbo C", "Delphi 1.0", and some of Stephen King's novels were gone as well as a part of the routine clean-up.
