SX/SXi/SXi Pro Would a bad voltage regulator/rectifier cause my engine to not rev up?

when i had a voltage regulator go out, it kept poping the fuse as soon as I put it in. However, couldn't the voltage regulator also fail and limit the amount of voltage through the systems which weaken the spark and cause the symptoms described?

That's what I kept thinking, but at first I always thought it would mainly affect the charging of the battery.

I think that was just a bug that flew through the shot at 10 seconds, yes checked all grounds and replaced battery cables with new cables. I tried messing with the Rev limiter to see if that changed anything but no difference. I have it set all the way up right now. The reason I bought the msd was because it was doing this with the stock cdi

Is it possible maybe something in the pump assembly is binding? Maybe check the ring gear on the flywheel? Doubt that is the problem, though. Sorry about hear about the setback. Kawi electronics can be puzzling at times, I feel your pain.

i have an 743sp in an x2 that does the same thing... but will rev up all the way on the trailer but it the water (under a load) it feels like it hits a rev-limiter. i changed out e-box with a good spare back up.. still same, changed out my blackjack to a regular sbn46, switch out v-force to stock reeds, tore my wife's sx-r down an ran her factor head pipe. my ski is dual cooled and the second pisser pulses when it acts like hits the limiter and smoke comes out too and it doesn't piss as hard as it use to out of that pisser. so i thought head gasket, even went as far as switching out my cylinder head dropping the comp. to 130 vs 175psi each cylinder. so i feel you pain... engine was just rebuilt and ran awesome...

it was a good running engine, all it got was crank seals, a hone and new rings. it's got me stumped! i've pretty much de-tuned the engine and it still won't make any kind of power. it will rev-up on the stand but just barely get up on a plan and just skoot around.

There is not mutch to a 2 stroke.

I dont think these are the coils.

Same i dont live nearby, but i would pay extra attention to the electrics make sure everything is fine, ( all resistance in the wires are good ) And the on / off switch disable it.

If all is done, maby pressure check the engine and if that is not the case get a micro guage that srews in the spark plug hole and check for a bad crank..

Also the flyweel and woodrufkey should be checked.

Else i would not know what to say about it :(

That sucks, maybe the crank bearings or crank out of phase? At this point it would hurt to tear it down and inspect it. Sorry to hear the set back.

I also got the flywheel off and woodruff key is perfect. No problems down there. I would tear it apart but I don't want to do anything unnecessary after everything else I've pulled and replaced. It sounds perfect though and doesn't run away or run lean. How can the crank be out of phase?

I just read back thru all that was already posted. When you disconnected the heat sensor, did you just disconnect it or did you replace it with a jumper? Not 100% sure on the older kawi's but my 06 SXR needed a jumper to replace the under hood sensor. Simply removing it opens the circuit and effectively triggers the limp mode. There was also 2 sensors on the SXR, one in the pipe and another in the engine bay right above the ebox.

P.S. Limp mode holds the rpm at 4000.
