650/X-2 x2 runs great then looses power

I think your on track with that exhaust leak.

I think we have finally found it. crank seals. My buddy is picking up the full gasket kit from lester today at Tsunami jet ski. Last night we tore the motor down, and the seals are hammered. we are gonna do a mild port job and reassemble so I'll have feedback this week. thanks yall

Don't forget to keep them all the ports the same I would just clean up the exaust side leave the intakes for the professionals. Gasket match your exaust mani and make it smooth get a diverter mani if you don't have one. Lester can show you what I am talking about. 650's don't respond well to lower port timing that's why I say I wouldint mess with the intake ports.

Thanks for the info, we actually didnt do any port work, think hes gonna wait until he does the top end, but when the time comes we would just smooth out the exhaust ports. I'm familiar with the diverter, does it really make a significant difference?

Why would crank seals cause that problem after an hour of riding fine? Also, how did you manage to do a crank seal job in only a few days? What did your toasted crank seals look like? I really want to see pics.

It would only run well for like 30 seconds. It was running for an hour the day we first encountered the problem. The job only takes a few hours. pull the motor, split the cases, pop the new seals in, clean the halves, add some 1211 sealant then reinstall. The seals are long gone but its pretty obvious that they were leaking when they just fell off the crank lol. They were super brittle.
