XFS Cavitation Big Time!

I tried my new (used) ski for the first time and it cavitates like crazy. When I came back in I only had 2 bolts left on the intake grate and it was loose. I changed the grate to a RRP to see if it makes a difference but not really and I'm also waiting for a new pump seal.

So here's the problem in detail: When I hit the throttle hard from stopped or before a set up wake, the engine spins and I don't move at all. If I am stopped and give it, I feel some rumbling under the tray instead of a smoother flow I am used to and it barely moves forward. If I give it less and lean forward enough I can get decent speed, but then it porpoises - I figure the two are connected or the same?

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

I will pull the pump tonight and check the seal. Hopefully its just that...

its more than likely the round pump to shoe seal. my fr2 did the same thing and you can temp fix it by taking the grate off and siliconing it from the inside, without pulling the pump. put a nice bead around the rubber seal and smooth it with your finger. it'll actually last quite some time before it starts cavitating again.

I was hoping it was something stupid like that but unfortunately not...

Pump shoe is nice and well sealed all around but it looks like there is a small gap between the seal and shoe about two inches long and the seal looks folded in at one small point from the outside.image.jpg

Will change the seal and make sure the pump is aligned.
