Freestyle XS771 vs. stock 701

Thinking about the XS771 top end since it falls more into my budget than a bigger motor. I'm wondering how much more power the 771 will have than the 701. Would the increase enough to hold me over for a while? On a scale of 1-10, what kind of improvement might I see assuming everything is set up correctly. I would most likely be using stock 38's and would eventually upgrade the ignition. Any mandatory upgrades? Is this a box of parts sent to me or would I send the motor to them for the installation?

Sorry for all the questions but I haven't seen them answered anywhere.

The difference would be big. You need to maximize your gains though. I hotter ignition with a lighter flywheel. Either go msd enhancer or ATP epic and a lightened #zero flywheel or spend some coin and get the TBM flywheel...or go gang busters and get a msd TL. You can buy the kit from xmetal or send your cases and have them ported as well and they can do the assembly. If I was gonna spend the money, I'd send the whole thing to xmetal and let them do it up. Don't half ass it. It'll be pricey but way worth it.

Plus, send ur carbs too and they can mod the 38's to work great. Don't get suckered into buying big aftermarket carbs. Those 38's will do fine especially once the cross over gets filled.

Not had the pleasure of riding the baby scream but I have rode some nice 760 set ups over here . Gotta agree with Pablo 38s are all you need and get it set up by xscream they really know there stuff big power increase if it's set up right ! I love xsream stuff but having rode jet manic bb 701 set up it ripped !!! I would look at there stuff aswell I know he does a big bore engine . Lastly you need a pump set up to match don't need to be a mag but at least a prop to match your new brap . Who ever you buy from will be able to advise

38 s. Will never work as good as big carbs. (Bigger is better), but do what you can this season and plan your upgrades for next year so you don't waste money on parts you will replace down the road. A 771 BB motor will continue to stretch arms as you bolt on better parts. Compared to A 701 you will have more grunt everywhere. Enough to need a pump adj.

I used to have a great running XS771. It had....

-Ported & Epoxied cases
-lightened 62T flywheel
-Advent Ignition set at -5degrees retard
-Dual 46mm mikuni's on a epoxied Boyesen manifold
-FX-1 Factory Pipe w/stinger mod by XS
-12-17 swirl in a 144mm mag pump, 1" setback

This was a test video, (kinda goofy) but you can hear the engine running. Coming up from a stock setup, this thing rips.

you still have to send them the cases to have them cut to fit the bigger pistons no matter what. It requires a full motor tear down to build one of these.

Exactly, but cases also need to be ported extensively to match the cylinder or your BB motor wont work properly.

if i was going to straight swap my top end for the 771 but keep all other components, would there be need to rejet for the increase in cc?
There will more than likely need to be some carb adj made to your motor. The case porting is pretty easy and you can get the cases bored to accept BB sleeves locally. This can save you some money for other stuff. There are plenty of threads to reD and local guys that you know that have done this enough to help you out.

Truth b told I'd go with the Jetmaniac BB before I dropped the extra coin for brand new xmetal build. Jetmaniac/blue's setup hits nice and it can be tuned and ready to rip just as a xmetal would for half the price. I had a Dasa BB setup and was real pleased with it. I was running dual 44's on it. The only reason I wasn't running 38s was thats what was tuned for the setup. If u go the Jetmaniac/Blue route then you'll have some extra coin for flywheel, ignition, and/or prop. You'll def need a prop upgrade to handle the new brap. Customer service would go hands down to jetmaniac...fantastic, plus he's now carrying basically all the other parts you'll want in the future (insert mag pump or new prop here).

I am running a JM/blue 718 and it hits hard for a 718, remember that it is only 1650 usd for a complete short block. If you doo compare what the same would cost att XS you are att 2200+ usd and it is only 53 cc more.

A well ported big bore will tide you over for a while. I have a 785 big bore right now. I can't do flatwater backflips or anything but I realized last year that chasing boats is far more enjoyable than trying to flip and roll off my own wake over and over and over. I would love to go bigger but I don't need it even for what I do on flatwater. A bigger engine would probably just cut my ride time even more due to the extra fuel burn and it really starts to wear you out. Higher jumps = harder landings. Provided the engine builder knew what they were doing... If you get the big bore now, you'll be happy for a while. As time goes on you can upgrade the carbs, ignition, pump/prop, hull, and all that other jazz as you see fit.

I love my LPW 771. I have a year on it no problems. The power differance is very noticeable. I sometime think it wasn't worth it...but then I ride my ported 701 and it is just not the same. I was told before I did it not to bother....man I am gald I did.

I am with Droc on the carbs. Aftermarket carbs just seem to work better on modded motors. Flow and tuning. My 2 cents.
