yamaha 701 questions?

ok first off ive got a 98 rn sj.....so heres a couple questions

1) whats the difference between 61x and 61t motors
2) how do i know what i have
3)what does it take to convert a 701 to a 760
4) where can i find bb kits? i already have a riva head with 31cc domes already girdled b-pipe so i dont want a kit...(which is all i can find) all i want is new jugs or can i just bore them out and put oversized pistons in it....im new to yamaha motors so i dont know where i can buy parts other than riva, groupk, r&d but they all want to sell there stuff in a kit which i dont reall want.

thanks for the input

Take some pic's, post them here and we can just look at the reed housing on the engine.
If you look right above where the starter snout goes into the cases, right on top of the case is a casting of 62T 00. This is the original 96-up style engine case.
Most single carb conversion on 96-up superjets use the Riva kit or ATP intake manifolds.
The Riva kit is a Kawasaki 650 manifold and a set of reed plate adapters to use the Kawasaki bolt pattern. The ATP is a custom billet machined intake manifold and is a direct bolt on to the Yamaha bolt pattern no adapters needed.
Advice for anyone modifying an engine...consult with a professional shop and build engine setup as per their instructions. This will save you, the customer lot of wasted $$ and time by not using the wrong tuned setup and getting sub-par results from a do-it-yourself package.

ill get some pics this weekend when i head back up to the lake.......thanks for your input and help...

im assuming its converted b/c theres not much stock looking about the single carb set up... but ill get some pictures this weekend and get some more input.... like i said this is the first yammi ive ever owned so i dont know much about them when it comes to add ons and such....

Any idea what compression you've got?

Just asking because I've got a Riva 31cc fixed dome, non girdled head on my 1995, single carb 701 motor. My compression is 210. even (race gas).

its supposed to be about 200 psi with race gas but the motor is tired so this winter im pulling it apart and rebuilding it....cuz im way low on compression

run it till it bleeds and bleed it for living...

You mean difference in 61X and 62T? That topic has been covered many many times. To tell what you have, like Chuck said, look at the tag on the cases and look on the side of the cylinder. Each should have a marking.

Also, 200 psi compression is too much for premium pump gas! 185 is about max for 93 octane.
