Anyone know what sponsons these are? I got these in the classified section a year ago or so. The guy I got them from said he thought they were made by Wamiltons. Any have an idea? I was planning on tossing them on the octane.

The Red flywheel has over one pound of metal removed in the mill. The red one is for '03-04 Octane. The other flywheel with the holes in it is lighter than the red one. I have never ran it, i am not sure what year it is removed from. The 1200 milled domes made about 155-160 compression.

More progress. Stuffed the tray full of polystyrene, foaming over it with two part tomorrow. Cases are being machined for big bore sleeves. One month til Daytona!!

Made some progress on the ski. Glassed in the tray. Mounted up a pair of Wamiltons front sponsons. Mocked up a stock 62t motor, drilled and tapped the plates, and epoxied them down. I took a grinder to the aluminum plates to make them really ruff to help with adhesion. Big bore mill should be back from the machinist tomorrow!

Great job on this project!

The only thing I see that concens me is that the sponsons seem to be really far back. is there a reason for that?
When I bought my white Wamiltons Octane it had those same sponsons on it, mounted in a similar fashion. Perhaps a bit further forward. However I never tried them because I stripped them off to save a bit more weight. Very curious to hear how yours rides when you get it done.

I called Wamiltons and they gave me dimensions for the sponsons. I too thought they looked too far back, but that is just where they want them mounted. Blowsion mounts the tubbies much more forward, but Wamiltons wants these mounted further back. Even on an SJ, they want them mounted back a bit. Here is how they mount them on a SJ, they are also mounted back compared to tubbies:

Got a chance to ride the ski today for the first time. The minute I got if off the trailer I could tell it was much lighter than before. The back end was much more buoyant now that the wet foam is gone. Engine runs hard, much more snap than the Polaris engine produced. So far very happy with it!
