yeah and if you had all the parts and hulls to cut up to graft together and money to buy all the materials and lots of free time and the will to do it...it would be done already.

I really dont want a challange...lol Just a lightweight boat. I have seen flash's fx1 mold in person, very very high quality work. As of now I am going to complete the set of molds. I really do want a solid LW X2. Running out to HF to get another cover for the rez tent. It goes up today.

Shawn,

I'll be the test boat. I'll bring the gel coat, biax, resin, the works. We could lay this boat up in a weekend. I'll bring the beer too. I would give my left arm for one of these, cause I need the right for the throttle!! I would love to add a lightweight X2 to my trailer next to my LW SJ. What are your plans for the firewall?

Very tempting. I am sure we can work something out. I'll let you know when I have the bottom close to ready. I got the firewall covered.

Bump from the dead.... I am in contract negs to rent a detached 2car garage that is less then 5miles from my condo. Last year when I started this, I had to drive 45mins to my moms and was only able to work on it 2days a week tops. If this goes through I could work on this (and other) projects on the weeknights! Will know more soon.

I want to interject one comment here and you may already know this Shawn,Gelcoat will not bond properly to epoxy inside a mold,it will not make a chemical bond. If I were laying up something in that mold I would use vinyl ester resin which will chemically bond with gelcoat. When I do repairs with epoxy on skis I use epoxy resin and gelcoat what I am doing is creating a mechanical bond only. This is done by thoroughly sanding the epoxy with 80 grit sandpaper to eliminate the blush and give the gelcoat some tooth to adhere to.The only way to do that inside a mold with epoxy resin would be to shoot the gelcoat thick ,then sand the back side of the fully cured gelcoat in the mold then do your layup over the sanded and preeped gelcoat, even then I wouldn't trust it.

Totally with you there. I will be using 100% epoxy for any parts I make, with either a epoxy primer or homemade "epoxycoat" that consists of epoxy mixed with graphite, alum powder, and cabosil. I would never use a poly based surface gelcoat on a epoxy based part.

I was just wondering because of the post that Winter X2 made, just wanting to clarify, what you are saying will work great.

Shawn, if I knew my truck wouldn't stink for life from the chemicals, I'd open up my 1300 sq ft garage at the house to you to finish. If you get in a bind though, I'm sure I could make some room for ya.

Thank you for the offer! Honestly I might be doing the rest of the build 100% epoxy (to keep stink to minimum)..... but the price of the molds goes way up. I'm meeting with the property owner early this week. Hopefully everything works out. I have so many ideas, but I have little time and no place to build anything.

GD Shawn, I just saw this thread. Good job on the making the mold. Now pop out a top deck.

Reading the thread and looking at the pictures just made me get the fiberglass ichey's on my arms.
