Your tool kit - at the beach, at the lake!

Location
Texas
Ski---rope and cell phone.
Truck---lots of stuff.
A pair of small vice grips is the best single tool I have. Perfect for rounding off bolt heads, lol.

I usually grab this:

300.jpg

I know I could throw out about half the contents, but the plastic case makes it easy to grab at once as opposed to picking out individual tools I might need from my big tool box. The ratchets are actually decent quality, much better than the sh%t craftsman sells lately. And the whole kit is cheap enough (google says $50 picked up at Fry's, $90 at Drugstore.com but use bing.com cash back for a better deal).

This is for my local lake trips, for anything further we pack lots more electrical stuff as well as replacement parts.

Huh? How'd you screw that up?

My plugs are torqued to 17ftlbs. Trying to get them off with anything but the right socket can get difficult without smashing my fingers or slipping and scratching the hell out of the head.

Flywheel puller and bendix

a wrench pre-bent to fit your b-pipe. offset wrenches also come in handy.

spare gaskets: b-pipe, intake manifold, flywheel cover

fuel filters

spare bilge pump, prewired - ready to install

extra scupper flap (if you have scupper)

asstd butt-splices (heat shrink, adhesive-lined, with solder...the expensive ones) and ring terminals

extra ODI grips, lock rings, and screws for lock rings

hose clamps

extra o'rings for heads, flywheel covers

You guys need to quit working on your own chit if you have to bring a bendix, flywheel puller and 2 flywheel covers.

"You need to hire someone that knows what their doing"

8mm wrench
10 mm wrench
sparkplugs and wrench
and
FUEL!!!!

If you had to drive 18 hours to get to a ride (Pismo comes to mind) you'd be pretty pissed if a bendix went out and you had no way of putting that spare bendix on.
The longer I have to drive, the more parts and tools are coming with me.

WTF do you need an 8mm wrench?

No if I need a bendix or something, I would take Penguins, along with a flywheel cover.

The 8 mm wrench is for, hmm your right, back scratcher? Oh wait the lil 2 nuts near the rear rub rail are 8mm. They might come loose while riding.

Wut?

The only thing I can think of for 8mm are the nuts on the steering cable ends.

naw, some of the lil black screws on the rub rail are through bolts with nyloc nuts on the back. They look like OEM so I didnt know if the previous owner replaced the screws with bolts or not. All the screw and bolt head look the same. I looked on another ski and it only had the short screws on the rub rails.

In addition to all of the above;

MSD Enhancer
Spare Voltage regulator
Small wire brush
Electrical tape
Siphon hose
AC Stand
Hose clamps of assorted sizes
Metric fastener assortment
scraps of Hydro turf
Spare battery
B-pipe couplers
spare fuel, air, water hoses.

I carry a small but complete set of tools from Walmart under the back seat, as well as everything else mentioned, in 2 of those small Rubbermaid Action Packer totes. They are small enough that they fit snuggly into the tray of each SJ with a bungie up to the handle bars for safety.

What about tools to keep on your ski (or on one ski in the surf ride group) for surf riding.

When out in big surf:
TOW ROPE
7-in-one screwdriver combo, slightly coated in wd 40
Cresant wrench/ works for the plugs too
wire cutters
zip ties

I have found that it is a really pain for those like me who have to ride at least a mile back to shore to get tools. Not fun to swim when the waves are big and your ski is sunk

This is true, but what good are tools if you don't have any parts? One tote is for spare parts, the second is for tools.

Here is what I carry for tools in the truck;
Stanley 201 piece mechanics set, $65 at Walmart and hasn't let me down yet,
Electricians Tool Pouch with what you see here and then some,
Fluke 87 Digital Multimeter,
Fluke 337 Digital AC/DC Clamp on meter,
Snap-On compression tester,
Flywheel puller,
Ampro AC fan clutch holding tool for holding flywheel,
Piston Stop tool, using this now instead of the Ampro unit, both seem to work.

I also just found and started carrying a leatherman "Wave" tool again on the ski. It's stainless and has all the basics.

Wow, thats a lot of good suggestions. Thanks everyone!

Hopefully this helps out other people too... Daytona is coming up! I won't be riding, but I'm going to come check out the surf.

Our skis won't be ready for the surf by Daytona. But we'll be there to check it out. Maybe I'll bring my new and improved tool kit if someone needs a wrench. Lol! :)

Best toolkit is to ride & sink & break someone else's ski, then split.
Just ask Saki.
