the650 fiberglass waterbox will be fine , but it sounds like you have a leaky needle and seat, hence why the plugs are loading up really bad. be careful, a bunch of extra fuel / fumes in the engine can cause a backfire on startup. one good backfire will blow the waterbox to pieces

what does the the tach say? if it is lean with a 190, that's a sign that fuel is not making it to the high speed circuit.
