Got a few more finishing things knocked out. Trimmed the rails at a 45, thanks @SXIPro. I clamped a strip of steel about 3/16" above the bottom of the rail to get a straighter edge than I could by hand.
Turfed the pole pad and mounted it.
Got another order from @JetManiac, new plug boots...
Looking for an aftermarket RN waterbox in decent shape. Would prefer a drop in replacement that wouldn't require additional hose couplers or cutting the stock long hose.
Yeah, I was wondering if there was some kind of requirement, and sure enough there is. Still I'm not sure if they'd know that technicality. My go to is "sorry the previous owner had it like this" and then "I'm not really educated on these skis and didn't see a spot to put one". ;) Which is true...
I couldn't bring myself to drill holes in my hood to mount one, plus the dead weight and unnecessary hassle. If the fun police hassle me too much, I'll get the smallest cop out I can find. Something like...
I can hardly believe it, but I took it for its maiden voyage yesterday. While I'm thinking about it, I weighed the hull bare with the aluminum pump shoe and it was 108 lbs. But anyway, all went well. The lean bog is gone now but the carb still needs some adjustment. The only issue I noticed when...
Thanks for your input. I just checked at 8 psi and got about 1 psi drop over 30 minutes. Unfortunately, I don’t have a vacuum pump. The reality is, I don’t think anything in my hooptie fleet of dirt bikes and skis has any bottom end seals less than 10 years old lol. I’d almost bet the motor has...
Did some engine work as well. The old girdle studs were seized in the cases so I had to weld the nuts on two and impact them out. Of course the new ones didn't want to go in either so I had to make a thread chaser. Just grind a slit in each side, coat it in antisieze and run it in / out with the...
I've had a busy week trying to get as much done as possible. I was ready to start turfing the rails when I decided I had to grind the bondline halves even with one another. Some areas were off more than a quarter inch. So one more time getting itchy with the grinder and then I poured epoxy in...
Thanks and I'm glad someone else agrees with me. While what they sent isn't my favorite color in the world, I wouldn't have a problem if it was the only blue on the ski. Unfortunately that's not the case and I'm pretty sure their standard policy is no returns / exchanges. Ideally I'd like...
It's been a while but I'm getting close. Wetsanded the paint with 1k, 2k, 3k then buffed it with Meguiar's Ultra cut then mirror glaze. The full size dewalt buffer was too bulky so I picked up a $10 drill buffing kit off amazon that worked surprisingly well. It's no show quality paint job, but...
My corners wanted to sink in like that too so I cut up shims from the insulation foam that would only let it sink in as far as it needs to. Then I used whatever I had laying around to push all the edges in flat and flush (clamps, duct tape, 2x4 cut to length etc.). I'd pick out all that foam in...
Yeah it is a somewhat flexible hose that’s ribbed inside. Just having glue with no mechanical fastening seems pretty stupid. Then factor in 25 year old glue and strain every time you turn. I looked at the parts diagram and they sell the piece but it doesn’t look like it comes with the hose. But...
On my rn the tube was threaded and screwed into the back of the male fitting the nut goes on. It also had a foam gasket on the inside. I just screwed it together tight and sealed the inside with 5200. Wish I had better pics but these are all I have.

Doubt it makes a difference as long as you have clearance in the engine bay and the pipe goes high enough to get it above the waterline. Yamaha went out of the way to put it as high as possible on the bulkhead and my only guess why is to keep water from back flowing with the engine off.

Couple little tricks. Whenever your sand paper clogs up use a stiff wire brush to clean it out. Usually can do this 4-5 times before the paper is worn out. To keep from wasting paint and making a mess with the quart cans, use some masking tape while the can lip is clean...
