I like the design of the Girdle bolts on my Riva head. Studs go into the crankcase then two ended nuts hold the cylinder on and the girdle bolts thread into the nuts.
Number one would be a hooker 9/15 or 10/16. I have a 10/16 and love it. I also have a 08+ superjet impeller. That's a good choice. Solas concord 13/17 is supposed to be good as well. Keep in mind a good stock waveblaster impeller is pretty good.
What are your carb screws set to? Low screw which is towards the rear of the ski is 1 7/8 plus or minus 1/4. The high speed screw is towards the front of the ski and should be 1 5/8 plus or minus a 1/4. What do your spark plugs look like? It sounds like it is running too rich and is dumping oil...
I didn't have to grind on my FX1 R&D grate but I know some other manufacturers grates and plates do have to be modified to fit. I would wait until you get your new pump shoe and then modify the grate if you need to.
