I would get a pump sitting in there before you hack up the shoe. It will tell you quick what way it needs to go. On a typical build you fit the pump an then install the shoe. Imo.

Its actually for a MTD.
Yeah it boogers them but I have about 10 replacements. After you remove it the first time you don't need it that tight.
Also you could grind down a wrench to work using tye box side.
