Better to cut it out. This only tells you if the lines are leaking pretty severely. I cut mine out, filled the center section with water and put 5lbs on the lines. Then brushed soapy water all around the seams.

Have you checked and ohmed out both the ground from the stator, and the ground wire from the starter to battery? Wiggle it while you ohm it out.
Run a second ground, from the engine to the back of the ebox, or to the negative post inside the ebox.

Sounds like you tried it all, I was just wondering if anyone had ever put a timing light on it. There's such a draw on here for plug and play parts that I wasn't sure anyone had ever actually tried putting a light on it. Great write up!

Domes are a faster and easier way to address the issue and you don't have to pull the jugs. Honestly you're probably not far off 50/50 territory but hard to tell without knowing he port timings.
