1995 Yamaha Superjet Resto-Mod

With some much needed motivation from the Daytona freeride, I’m back to work on this build! I was able to get my other side rail set up and cured. It came out nice!

I removed the foam and sanded it all down smooth. 5B211E98-5A4F-4941-BD4D-CED09BD9EC44.jpeg

It felt nice and strong but I decided to add another layer of 1708 with no backer, 4” wide so it will overlap to give it some added strength.

At this point, I think I might ditch the footwells and just make a full custom tray. I’m also starting to consider weight... I can still lift this hull by myself but how much is too heavy? Haha? I’m very close to being finished with the fiberglass. I’m in the final stretch!

Special thanks to @tomski for coming through with the discontinued Blowsion handlepole bracket. Legend has it this is the last one left... Man, I was sweating finding one of these and you did me a huge favor! Can’t wait to install it... now I just have to figure out how to get it anodized a different color

Pulled the table saw out again today to start cutting the foam for my custom tray. It decided to start snowing for a while... DD233E6B-1B5E-4F38-9AC8-AED7E17514FA.jpeg

I decided to make some ramps on each side of the tray to hide the exhaust and also make the tray look somewhat symmetrical. Later today I’m going to pour expanding foam underneath and behind the ramps. Then I’ll be ready to close up the tray. Finally. 35175589-B968-4E7F-956C-835A325917C2.jpeg

After I lay the final floor glass, I’m going to epoxy foam underneath the side rails, then pour foam in the voids, then sand to my liking and glass them. Something like this 43F4962D-753D-4B08-B355-0C46B841E557.jpeg

Finally ready to lay some glass... trying to figure out the best way to do it. I’ve come up with a 3 piece system, overlapping in a few areas. How thick does the tray need to be? I’m thinking 2 layers of 1708 without backer, the overlapping areas would be 4 layers thick. Any thoughts???

I just woke up this morning and it looks like there is a bunch of small air pockets under my final layer. Pretty frustrating considering I spent ALL day making this as perfect as I could. It all looked good last night an was rolled out and everything. Anything I can do about this? 50C534F0-27C6-444A-9EA0-5FDFB31F3140.jpeg10AE5DD8-07F1-4D74-AEBD-1DF7BD1BCFCF.jpeg

After cleaning up a few of the rough edges I started to shape the foam for the side rails. After I had all that figured out I decided to epoxy them into place and then I will fill the voids with pour foam after the epoxy cures, Then glass over the rails and be done. Work was crazy slow today so I bailed at half time. I was eager to work on the ski so I ran downstairs, removed my clamps and got everything ready for the expanding foam. Bombs away

I removed the large pieces of expanding foam just after it cured so it was still very easy to cut. I got the big pieces out of the way and started sanding, and sanding, and sanding some more. I have to admit, I feel proud of my work and hand shaping these side rails. Kinda strange how this work is so easy and so hard at the same time...
