Not too stoked on these hood strap ratchets. Maybe I just suck at them. It takes me forever to unstrap the hood. Anybody have some tips? I've used regular ratchet straps forever but they only have one spring mechanism. This came with two. It's a pain in the ass


Edit: I completely change my mind on the strap now that I've been using it for a while. I love it. It takes me less time to pop my hood than a regular latch with two straps setup. I highly recommend these to anyone. I'll never run a latch again.

yeah they take time, you have to squeeze with one hand push up ratchet and straps and pull release with the other

I'm not a huge fan on how 'easy they are to undo - but they do provide a much tighter seal on your hood than an OEM set up, and you'll never have to worry about your hood popping off. Take a little bit of practice, but basically you can use 1 finger to hold both levers back, and use the other hand to lift the hood, which will pull the strap out with it.

Copy so one finger for both levers. That makes sense. And pull on the hood. Ill try it. Good info. Thank you!

Nope. JK. No flip yet. I was able to burn through the first five gallons yesterday and overall it went really well. The ski ran great (mostly).

I'm in love with how smooth the powerband is on the freestyle ported 760. It feels like it has plenty of power too. I was immediately able to do 180s, 180 nose stabs, and power 360s without any problems which I was stoked on because I've never been able to do 180 anything on my SXR before.

After the first jaunt out I came back and popped the hood to find the engine bay about 1/4 full of water. That's when the video above was taken. For some reason the starter kept cutting out and it wouldn't start. I let it sit on my stand in the water for about 30 minutes, and I came back to find the engine bay is now 1/2 full of water. I used my four wheeler to winch it up onto my dock and let the water drain.

After draining the starter cut in and out randomly for another minute then it finally started and ran great for the rest of the night. For some reason the water in the hull wasn't letting the starter do its thing. I'm gonna install a 1100 gph auto bilge ASAP and get rid of the duck bills. This should keep water from collecting like that and hopefully prevent future electrical gremlins/ starter issues.

Has anybody had their starter behave strangely with water in the hull before?

Maybe be a fluke but if water is getting into the starter it may be getting into the stator housing as well. I would yank the engine and inspect for leaks.

Additionally, check your hood seal and your scupper (if you are using one) and could be a good idea to add a bilge.

If your engine bay is 1/4 full of water after riding a bit, either you have a serious leak somewhere, your hood hood isn't on when you rollover or flip, or your bills are plugged. I rode my BoB with one of my 2 cooling lines running to my manifold off for about 6 months. I changed my starter once and BAM. Found a loose hose. Only reason I know it was for that long was because if I had my bilge on while riding, it would always trickle a little bit of water. I thought I had a leak somewhere in the midshaft or something. Just rode it out.

A bilge is not required to keep water out of your hull. Put a go pro in your hull with a light source and figure out where your water is coming from if you need to.

Replace the duckbill opposite side of the exhaust with a scupper. The duckbills in mine did not let enough water out.
