2018 Superjet

Yamaha lineup came out yesterday. No mention of the SJ though. As far as couches it looks like the Spark is still the best bang for the buck.

The new EXR looks like good competition for the Spark. More expensive yes, but I'd take the Yamaha over the Spark any day. You'll be paying the difference when the Spark breaks...which seems fairly common.

Just curious what everyone thinks is going to happen to the used market for superjets if they ever update it AND it doesn’t suck? Personally I think they will pretty much stay the same.
Side note: I understand they are legally not allowed to update the old 2t tech, but I think people are insane when they blow 9k on 20+ year old technology.

Probably stay high, as it is any old RN here in California is going for about $5K, that's what is crazy.

I agree they should cost less since the tooling is paid for, but maybe they have a lot of overhead due to low volumes. We don't know. At least the MSRP hasn't gone up in the last 5 years.
But just because it is old does not mean it is not good. It's a solid motor and very reliable.

I think it will stay the same or go up in value.

If they just discontinue it alltogether, it will go up.
If they release a 4t, will it be able to be inverted? If not, it's going to drive up the cost of the remaining 2t. And the 4t will just not be as nimble and light.

Definitely not going to drop 50% when a new model hits.

This is pretty much what I was thinking. Really I can put logic to it going any direction. The squarenose market is solid and has been for years, old RN is more reasonable as of late from what I’ve been seeing (at least in Wisconsin). Really rooting for the 4t though, if people buy it, the community will at least see some improvements every few years from Yamaha I would think.

You realize we are already speculating on the "might never happen" 2020 model now correct?

The 2019 is the same as the 2008-2018.

If we are making a wish list for the evolution of the superjet I would vote for a Transfer Port Injected two stroke like the new KTM 2-strokes dirt bikes.

Time to close this thread as the 2018 model is long confirmed.

Be great to see manufactures go back to 2strokes.

"Firstly, it is not a direct-injection system. Direct-injection was too complex, changed the performance of the engine and starved the bottom-end of two-stroke oil.

In the KTM system, two-stroke oil is pumped into the throttle body, to lubricate the crankshaft, barrel, and eventually the cylinder bore and rings. Fuel is squirted into the cylinder via two injectors in the transfer ports, rather than into the inlet port or head."

Yes I think everyone on the forum is fully aware of everything you’ve just said...especially since the ‘18 has been out for almost a year now..
There’s nothing wrong with discussing a future model since there’s no discussion to be had about the current one.

Or here is another scenario. What if, in a month Yamaha pulls a hat trick and shows up at WF's with a Production Model 4 Stroke???? Just like Kawasaki did 2 years ago. Granted, a week before there were leaked video's at body beach showing them running the bouy course. It was the worst best kept secret so to speak..........

Better yet at the next whatever final freeride location they have the exact same SJ but with a reinforced pole and rocker. *Remeber the thread where @butch went to Japan to discuss a freeride hull.
