New 3/5 Gallon Tanks for TNT, RRP, PFP & B-pipe

Okay here is what I came up with for a fire extinguisher bracket. It would be welded along the top tabs and sides, with the center turfed and the extinguisher held on with thumb tab hose clamps. I'm going to make a prototype tomorrow and weld it to a sheet of aluminum for testing. I think I might have a fire extinguisher out in the garage, or I saw they have the shorter, 3.25" diameter one at Walmart for $8 I can test it out with. I might also have to angle the bracket on the front of the tank a bit to clear the pipe easier.

What about using the hooks/mounts from an old ski like shown? IIRC SXR'S had decent mounting hardware that could be used that might be better than these.

I love it! This would be exactly what I was hoping for. Hopefully it works well when you mock it up!

I still have your address, if you want an extinguisher just let me know. Also, sign me up for one of your first 3.5 tanks with the FE holder if it works out. The Havoc build is begging for it :)

Personally I would shy away from these. I don't trust that rubber mount inside my bilge and the mounting option would be tough. These work great for strapping one in your tray tho!

I would like to be put on the list for a tank with a battery tray and extinguisher holder, Freaking genius idea. actually I might buy 2 if I can fit it in my BOB without redoing my inserts.

I mocked up several extinguisher mounts last night and it seems that it will work better than expected. I think I'm going to go with the slightly larger one welded on both sides as the extinguisher is fairly heavy. Two hose clamps held it very securely without even needing to crank them down very tight. Testing was done with the Kidde Mariner 5, the slightly shorter, stubbier marine extinguisher they offer. I couldn't find the PWC version anywhere, but I'm sure it would work just fine too.

Something more serviceable than hose clamps would be ideal. Or if you have to use clamps like that I think T bolt clamps would be a lot stonger, ive seen hose clamps vibrate loose and or break. I could see a few pancakes rattling those loose.

Those were just for testing purposes. I probably won't include the clamps with the tank unless requested as there are different sizes of extinguishers and preferences out there.

There are cam-lock clamps that would work well for quick access, but are very expensive:

T-bolt clamps would also work well, and you could use a lock nut or constant-tension t-bolt clamp if you are worried about it coming loose:

I don't think most people actually plan on using the fire extinguisher though, it's just for legality purposes, so quick access probably wouldn't be an issue. Shoot, if I had to put one in my ski, I would discharge it first and jimmy the guage to read full. I wouldn't want to risk the chance of the tank getting punctured or accidentally discharging the powder into the bilge and ruining the motor. That would lighten it up by an extra 2lbs too.

Discharging the extinguisher and modding the gauge ... That's a great idea. Might just have to do that lol

keep in mind you probable want to make it weight the same. Feel likes its easier just grinding the plunger/trigger so it cant discharge. If the cop picks up a feather light extinguisher i'm sure it would not take them long to figure out its been tampered with. Think the penitently would be the same if they caught you with a modded one?

True that...or maybe your best bet is strapping it somewhere in your engine bay in one of the containers couches come with? The yellow things?

I felt the same way about having a fire extinguisher on my boat until someone put it like this to me......

The first extinguisher isn't for your safety. It's for the safety of others. What if you were the only other watercraft on the water and there was a family with little kids on the water who's boat was on fire....and you couldnt go help them?

Needless to say, I bought a fire extinguisher and I like the idea of putting it on the tank.

That is the argument all the local DNR guys give us as well. And while it does make sense. are you really going to ride over on your AM ski and open your hood and fish out an extinguisher. potentially sinking your own ski for a tiny fire extinuguisher that will likely not be adequate enough? Youd be better off riding to get help ASAP after telling the people that's what your going to do.

In the moment, yes, I wouldnt hesitate to try and save them depending on far I am from shore and what the best option is. Most people on a boat will have a cell phone, so they would be able to notify authorities of the danger they are in, but I might be able to respond earlier. Also, I wouldnt give a f*ck about my ski sinking. Karma works wonders and saving a life/lives is priceless.....skis are replaceable.

You can empty/wash out some fire extinguisher then fill with compressed air.

I would tell them to jump off the boat and tow them to shore. That little 2lbs fire extinguisher wont do anything for a boat fire.
A buddies boat caught fire a few years back out on the lake, the fire department was 2 blocks away from the cove where the boat was. They sprayed the boat down with foam, but was only able to save the transom/motor. The boat was still smoking days after the fire, resin burns hot. The boat was still floating after the fire finally went out.(see attachment)

I think that situation would call for an old school fountain. Better than any fire extinguisher will ever be.

haha, good idea lumpy. I can pull off a pretty mean fountain.
