Freestyle 300 SX build FINISHED!

Big progress today. I re did the pole bracket mount with a few layers of carbon. I got the hood wrapped and the carbon cured, I just put the first coat of laminating resin over the carbon- tomorrow I sand and re coat. After that it goes to work and it gets cleared a few times, sanded and buffed. I have some cool dasa stickers, I was thinking of putting an orange stripe up the side of the hood and using the decals to mask it out, peel them and reveal carbon lettering in the stripe.. A plain black carbon hood is gonna look weird on an orange ski. (but Im sure it wont crack!)

Reinforced the pole bracket mount and widened to accept any sj bracket. 5 layers of 6 oz carbon and microballoons on the outside, tomorrow it gets backed from the inside. Now to get the last layer of resin on the hood.

And for an interesting twist to the stripe, I'll paint over this decal and remove it before I clear so it's left there in carbon? Opinions please

I like the idea. Can you take some pictures of the pole bracket area. Curious to see how you did it. Im gona be starting a 300 build soon

What resin were you using for this?
Are these photo's after sanding or did the resin go down that smooth?

hahahaha, This is actually wet sanded up to 800 grit. I washed it off, blew it dry and sprayed wax and grease remover on it to get it to shine for the photo.

For a visual layer of carbon or kevlar, I wet out the panel, lay the fabric over it and start working it with a NEW bondo spreader. Keep working the twill in all directions to get it to fully wet out and cover any base layer color that may be showing. After that gels I put on one more coat of resin, not pushing so hard this time. After that cures, I sand from 180, 220, 320, then wet 400 and wet 800. any craters left will be filled on the last coat of resin, a quick sanding and its ready for a coat of automotive grade urethane clear coat. I am very pleased with how this turned out, not a lot of added weight in the end, and I dont have to worry about my 24 year old hood cracking. The resin is MAX CLEAR HP epoxy resin.

The hood looked amazing after I cleared it tonight. I got anxious so I baked it, and sanded it with 800 and laid out the stripe. Tomorrow it all gets cleared again and the shine will come back to the carbon. The dasa logo will be carbon too, I just got done peeling out the decal. I'm happy with it.
