Add to cart. Great idea on the smaller razor. Also good to know on the yoga mat!
One more interesting thing to note, my kicktail was made out of camping mat, the blue camping mat from Walmart that everyone uses, out of the three different foams the camping ,mat retained way more water and required drying out with the heat gun for 10 minutes, the yoga mat I just wiped off with a towel, so there is the long and short of that.

So these won't work on a Superjet, they are way too big however they are the right size for the 300SX and when I cut them off I will save the rest for next time . I will only need about four coils per side and I will most likely superglue them to the hull top and bottom, also in tthe pic to the left of the bellows is a new Frogzskins vent, if it works like they say it does it will be a very nice addition to the ski

I am looking into some cable grommets from McMaster carr to go inside the boots and seal the cables. They have a few options that might work and they atre cheap enough to try out.

I am going to be honest here, I wanted to scuff this thing and shoot it, it wasn't in the cards, I am not sure what happened on this paint but basically it is not stuck to the hull, maybe the Urethane softened the paint up under it, I can't be sure, what I am sure of is it's a fire sale now, which means everything has got to go !

Stripping it down to the bare hull and starting over as this is the only way forward that I can see right now, it sucks but when most of the paint is coming off with a razor blade it's what has to be done. to do it right. The Urethane does not want to sand, the paint under it is dead and comes off like sanding primer, I may noy have to do this under the rub rail and on the bottom but for sure all the rest of it has to go.

A follow up on the new cable bellows, they needed some kind of seal at the top, Mcmaster Carr part numbers 7291N44 and 7291N23 The 44'S come in packs of five, you will need them I messed up the first three trimming them , I just cut an X slot in the top with a razor knife and trimmed the groove in them to widen it a bit, tricky tricky , the 23's come as singles , much easier to trim and you just punch a hole at the bottom, I used a cheap punch set to make a nice round hole in mine. Once trimmed they fit the tops of the shock boots perfectly and I superglueed the two together.

Impressive find!
I have about $35.00 in the boots and the seals, not bad considerng the stock stuff is no longer available and the Yamaha parts are too small for the holes in the ski and also very expensive. These things are smaller at the top than at the bottom so technically next time I could forsee putting the old one inside the new one and it look brand new again, there is enough boot to do that about three times

Sanding, sanding an you guessed it more sanding, actually the part under the rub rails does not want to sand, I know how many coats of paint, primer silver base and filler are on there so I just got the 4 1/4 "side grinder out, I am vey skilled with the side grinder as I use it a lot to shape upholstery foam , so I was able to get all the green off the left side , once that was gone the rest actually sanded off quite eaisly although it did make one helluva mess.

Sometime tomorrow all the green will be gone, actually all of the paint on the entire hull willbe gone except for the bottom. I still take I can touch that up and reshoot it without doing all this nasty work.

Ordered the white paint and actiivator today, I have several projects going right now that need white paint, I may even have to order more, we will see.

I use Kirker paint a lot, why because it's cheap and it shoots really well , when I worked at the Ski club I shot a lot of PPG concept single stage, purely from a Painters veiwpoint Kirker shoots and lays down almost exactly like PPG, I know what you are going to say , it won't last .

I would say time has proven that theory wrong, case in point , on this ski I sprayed it with Kirker Spectra candy urethane, this candy paint is meant for show cars , they are shown and then they go back in the garage or trailer till next time, on this ski which was painted 10 years ago it has been out in full sun all ten years , some of you may know this but we are just up the road from Flordia , I can be at the state line in less than an hour, it gets hot here I believe 106 with the heat index a few weeks ago, dayum hawt !

This paint was still shiny , it had cracked and checked in some places from sun damage but where it wasn't cracked and checked it doesn't sand off well , as a matter of fact below the rub rail on the bottom, I ground that paint off with the side grinder and a flap disc, it did not give up easily, if that's not tough I don't know what is.

I decided to shop around this time and I am glad I did, in the cart at Autobodytoolmart which is where I buy a lot of my supplies, the paint and activator came up to $129.99 ,
I bought the exact same paint and activator off of Ebay this morning for $97.19 , so on one order I saved $32.80 , it pays to shop around.

White paint is in and I would really like to spray this ski but as I said I have a bunch of stuff that needs to be painted white, first on the hit list is the front fender on my truck, it is already e-coated , sanded with 320 and washed, next is wax and grease remover, tape it and spray it. That will all happen today.

On to the next project,, I will probably reduce the paint some next time to get some more shine out of it and when I spray the purple I am going to break out the Satajet, this is a work truck, I sprayed it with a cheapo harbor freight paint gun and no reducer , I wanted it white, it is white , there are no runs or trash in the paint , one thing is for sure it is the whitest thing on this truck, I am good with it, and so it goes...

Somestimes I can just let stuff go, today was not one of those times so this morning I wetsanded it with 1500 and buffed it with Meguiars heavy cut compound and waxed it, I don't know if it looks any different in the pics because it is cloudy here today but trust me it's like night and day. Thats what I love about single stage urethane, for those that don't know the paint sold by Summit racing and Eastwood is Kirker paint that is rebranded, it's cheaper from Kirker.

I know it looks like I am drifting off to other projects but there is a method to my madness, I usually spray with a Harbor freight HVLP gun, nothing special and you can clearly see the design of the HP gun is copied off of this Sata jet .

A friend of mine I trade back and forth with gave me this Sata jet 90, I have never sprayed with one before, it didn't look this nice when I got it and I had to do a lot of cleranup on it, but it's like being given a steak when all you have ever eaten is hamburger.

It's going to take me a minute to get used to spraying with this gun and I don't want the learning to be done on this ski, it's much easier figuring it out on large flat or semi flat surfaces first, I think it will up my game seriously once I have this dialed in.

if you are a real body man you know what the first pic is, conversly if you don't know or don't own a set you are not a real body man.
Removing that last little bit of stubborn paint, this is the tool you use for that. I also fixed a place on the side where I had run into the ski with a trailer, really the only damage on the whole ski. very little fairing to do on this, then primer and paint.

I am way behind on this build because of work, weather and other projects but I plan on throwing an engine in here and riding Tuesday we will see how it plays out, I ain't against riding ugly although truefully it' ain't that ugly anymore.

Getting the bugs worked out , I haven't ridden the FLAT DECK 650 SX since last Memorial day and it wasn't put up properly, yeah yeah I know, you would think ........

Anyway it's not too bad, the starter is locked up,I got iot unlocked but it will at least need a rebuild, the starter clutch was stuck , I have it working now, I also have to block a cooling fitting because the 650 was running dual cooling , I do have spare parts, anyway the motor has been ripped out , cleaned up and sometime early tomorroww morning it goes back in the 300SX and hopefully sometime tomorrow afternoon we go ride.

I have conceded , defeat sucks but at least I played the game, I fought the ski and the ski won. My misatake is I made a lot of assumptions, I assuemd the engine would just drop in the ski, it did not, I had forgotten I was running 550 couplers on both the shaft and the engine, I actually had a coupler and had it here, I swapped that out, then it didn't like the Ocean Pro bedplate, I had a stock one here , I swapped that out, then while removing an elbow fitting from the exhaust manifold it snapped off, I drilled that out, then the brass plug would not screw into the hole the fitting came out of, I got that sorted, the starter I had to have the end cap swapped out . I swapped that out, are we starting to see a pattern here ?

I got the engine in and fitted and the Coffman exhaust hit the hull like everywhere, I had been running a modded 650SX stock exhaust on this ski, no problem so another trip to the shop and I loaded up a bunch of exhaust pipes, I knew I could make one work.,if nothing else I brought the modded stocker, I tried the other Coffman pipe I had , no go, then I tried the Coffman pipe that had the stinger section welded onto the pipe, no coupler so it had some extra room and the angle looked right, one problem, it won't go into the hull with the motor in place, so out the motor comes again and in goes the pipe , then I wrestle the engine back in with the pipe in the way of course. , a spacer I made not having any idea if I would actually use it or not got used today to lift the pipe up, then another spacer between the pipe mount and the manifold and it fits like a glove, the resonator connector pipe is too small to go on the Coffman and this is where I called it quits for the day.

The engine is in , it spins over, the cooling lines are all cut and run, I lack one piece of hose on the exhaust, putting the carb back on and hooking up the electrical and it will be a runner again.

The Godfather part two coming soon to a lake or river near you.
