I know the tubbies themselves are 3lbs plus the biax and epoxy to put them on and the exhaust tube is 4lbs. Scupper tube is probably 3-4 and another 1-2 for the botom re-enforce. I just didnt expect it to come in at that. I am going to re weigh it tomorrow on level ground.

Not at all! Mine came in at 88 lbs when complete and I was ecstatic! The bottom deck is 56 lbs and the top is 12 - that alone is 68 lbs. Once you add on bonding, reinforcing, nose building, and FOAM, that number grows fairly fast. Heck, my 4 lb foam accounts for 12+ lbs alone.

You'll love it when you put it in the water. You'll never be happy on a stock weight hull again. :grouphug:

Isn't 2lb a bit too much though? Would it be rigid enough? (I know some here bypass the foam all together) but more reinforcements would be necessary to compensate yes?

I did my old stock hull with 2lb and it was plenty rigid. The 4lb stuff I used in my conversion boat doesn't feel any more rigid, and it shrunk and caused a crack in the gunwale. I'd much rather have 2lb foam that doesn't shrink! Plus it's lighter.

bathroom scales are not very accurate... weigh it on a real scale

I'd roll by to a warehouse with ski in tow. Bring a couple coffees for the guys on the dock. They should either have a forklift scale or a pallet scale which can both easily weigh the machine. Do it with hull only so its easier to get up to dock level (lighter). Than weigh your power on a bathroom scale holding it and total them up.

Foam has a short shelf life. Some types I have sold in the past only last 6 months before they are junk. I mixed up a batch that was about a year old once, and found that it shrank a LOT. It never really got hard, either. It stayed just a little rubbery.

I got two sides re-enforced this past week with 12oz biax and 11oz carbon only to discover I have a F-ING BUBBLE :17:in the left side under the carbon. I'm so pissed so out comes the grinder this week and off course it is in the only part of the boat that you can see when everything is in.

This might make you feel better about the weight of your boat:
I just weighed by bare OEM SJ hull, reinforced with glass in the back and c/k in the front.
Exhaust, scupper, all tubes except the driveshaft tube, and the entire tray are removed.
It still weighs 104.5 lbs.

WOW, I dont feel to bad now plus I was able to justify the weight once i broke down what i did to it. Between the tubbies, the re-enforcing the tray and i built the nose up to hold up i figure thats where the weight came in.

You're doing fine.
I figure my reinforced OEM will come in at 125 if I pay close attention to detail.

Dammit.....I guess I need to slim down myself some to get that lightweight feeling. :haha:
Cool project.

Its a bubble, who cares. I know you want the ski to look sweet, but for a bubble in the glass, I'd Slap an LPW sticker over it.
