A Man of principle

Hey Guys,
Its aparent to me that Xh20.com freeride planners needs to work on there principles.
Wait, Let me start form the begining.
If you check the threads you'll see I was pretty new to Freestyle events. I drove 250 miles with my wife, my daughter and my two year old to attend the Cleveland Rock and ride. It looked like a fun time, hanging out with fellow jetski'ers for a day of fun. So we crowded in the car and headed out. I had a blast with my teenaged daughter. Its was the time of her life.
Together, She and I joined the Poker run. She even came in 5th place and won a set of RNR footholds...and this is where it went wrong.
The organiser of the event told she and I that she had won the footholds. Great! we said. Then he asked If I had foothold in my ski. I said yes. Then he asked If I would be interested in selling them to another guy he new. I declined saying my footholds were homemade. All Was good. Until, we went to pick up our prizes. I guess the guy was a better friend than an outsider from Hamilton. Because he took the footholds and gave them to his buddy. When I asked him why My daughter wasn't given the proper prize. He said he made a mistake. I said Right!
So instead of making a scene (Cleveland is a long way from Hamilton). I reached in my daughters prize bag and gave the substituted gift (unneeded nozzle boring) away to some random person and we left.
We will not be returning for the sunday ride.

I caution out of towners when attending events sponsored by XH20.com. Its a shame the event was tainted like this..most of the guys were great and the riding was awsome

I would say that would be atypical (not typical) of the X members and rather poor judgement of an individual. I am a proud member of the X and have gained much from being a member. I would however venture to hear both sides and if a wrong was done then it needs to be undone. Aside from that incident, it appears that your family enjoyed the events. It would be a shame that something like this would mar that experience......

that's not right. hopefully there is a mis-understanding that will be resolved. If it doesn't get resolved I'll try to find you a set... This site really is the place to go for help and organizing events.

Dear Sir,

You are crowding "X Members" together as you are crowded together with idiot couchers. Please remember that everyone makes their own choices. The X has nothing to do with the said individual other thena get together was planned on this site.

Please think about what your saying before posting garbage about us. I'm assuming you have never been to any of the other freerides? You had one bad trip.....took it all in as a whole assumption and then posted......Wow!

I believe should have taken this up with the ride organizer man to man privately. All could have been settled, done without a scene, and no accusing post would have came from it.

I'd be fairly angry as well. Whats it matter to the guy what you do with the prize YOU won. Hopefully you don't associate a misunderstanding like this with the rest of us. I had a bad experience with a guy at the 05 riot ride. I didn't associate to riot radio or pwctoday. Was just a guy who thought he could take advantage of my generosity because I was a kid. Don't let one misunderstanding keep you from going to other rides because there are a lot of cool people on here.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

I got a question though.

I caution out of towners when attending events sponsored by XH20.com.

Why?
Do you feel that events sponsored by XH20.com are going to have issues with prize drawings that are systematic and spanning multiple events nation-wide? Do you feel it's ingrained Board Policy to take some prize away -from out-of-towners and give them something they don't want?
Do you think that this will happen to you at every XH20 Freeride out there?
Do you think that the XH20 Corporate board instructs its staff to screw people over?

Or.....

Perhaps....

Did you come across a regrettable problem with one individual, at worst, or mis-communication, at best?

And if that's the case, what is your gripe with XH20 freerides?

Sir, I really do not get it.

I do wish you better luck in the future and hope you don't let this one individual (or XH20 Corporate MEgapolicy?\ somehow ruin your opinion of thousands of members.

I can see his point actually and understand why he chose here to vent. If there is a lot of XH2O signage and people are told that X-H2O is "sponsoring" this ride then this is a logical place to come and voice your concerns. It would really suck to not get a prize that you were drawn for. This would be especially true if it appeared that the better prize went to someone just because they were a friend of the organizer.

That being said I would be interested to hear the other side of the story but from what I have heard it does not sound right.

Raserx I would also encourage you to give freerides another chance. I've never been to an 'official' ride but I've gone to two surfrides on the PNW coast and they have both been a blast with some of the best people I could ask to meet. I've also not heard anything bad from Matt_E about the Pismo trip (he traveled quite a few miles and was most certainly an 'out of towner' at that ride). Don't let one bad experience spoil it all for you.

I do not doubt that it was a bad experience, and I am not trying to downplay it either.
What I do not understand is wanting to warn others from attending future freerides because of this.

"Watch out Karl, don't go to that freeride. Yeah, last time I went, some jerkwad took my foothold prize and exchanged it for a nozzle bore!
Can't trust those XH20 guys! They are known for this sort of crap"

Raser, I do see your point. I would have been upset.

I hope this opens people's eyes to the fact that each individual associated with the X in a way represents us as a whole.

Whether I feel that way or not sometimes, appearances count.

I'd like to hear what this was Boggs. I organized that ride. We didnt have any shwag giveaway or any charity. We sold t-shirts, but that was it. I dont see how anyone could be taken advantage of.

Back on topic. I wont believe anything until I see a post from DJ. I know DJ, and he's a good guy. Raserx has one post, and is accusing one of our own of cheating him, and implying that freeride organizers "hook up" their buddy's. I know that to be completely untrue in all the freeride I've been involved in. I refuse to believe Raserx until I hear DJ's side of the story

Sounds to me like a real crappy situation. I dont think its fair to blame everyone on the X but maybe a thread voicing what happened was a good idea. Maybe not blaming the X but letting them know what happened considering they sponsored it. Doesn't seem like anyone knew. Hope it works out for you. I think its even a little lamer they snagged them from your daughter. Your a better man than me for not causing a scene.

definately nothing you did. that ride was awesome. nothing the organizers or anyone really affiliated with the ride did, just some one who attended.

I don't understand why the post was made here and at PWC... why not contact the organization directly and then come back and bitch if it's not handled first?

i would say, as i watched the whole thing, it was a miscommunication issue.

dj had all the prizes in his car and was trying to talk from memory while at the beach.

the guy that won the foot holds can not even use them.
he rides a 1200, has no stand up to even use them in.
so really was not a gain for a
"local buddy"!

im sure if you would have talked to phil, the guy that won them, he would have worked a swap.

dj worked very very hard to get this to go off and is always one to try to promote the good side of the sport.
i don't think it is too fair to come here and bash with out knowing both sides of the issue. i am sure he meant no ill buy accidentally telling you your dgtr won the holds. it was just a mistake

believe me, phil did not get over on anyone by winning those foot holds
if dj was trying to hook a buddy up i would have got those from him as i need them

im sure dj will have more to say as i saw this as an observer

there really is no organization to contact
this was put together by a guy that rides and wants to share our area and some fun with others

it's just dj
and he did a hell of a job i will say!!!

he has no gain in this. all these goodies get sent to him from the sponsers, and he gets nothing out of it in the end but the satisfaction of knowing he hosted a good event and the people that came had fun

the only people that are meant to benefit from this event is the charity that gets the maney he collected

Hey Guys,
I wrongly suggested that X-h20 was to blame. I was corrected, and rightly so, on PWCTODAY and X-H20.

Now to address a few facts:

My Name is Johnny,
I ride a Kawi SXI STANDUP with footholds, aluminum pole..etc. NOT a 1200 sitdown. I also Have a seadoo 3D. Both ridden the first time in the surf(?) thanks to X-H20.

This is my second post on X-H20.
I mostly frequent PWCtoday. But, I come over here and read alot. So please don't think I am some disgruntled coucher.

I posted here as you are the guys who are mostly affected at X-h20 events.

My issue is about PRINCIPLE not money.

I did ask DJ (orange shorts, green kawi) about the prize switch. It was written down on the prize list, to which he relied, "um...I (he) was wrong". Then he said he needed to add another prize to my daughters bag, so he stuck a blowsion sticker in her bag.

Lastly, I had a blast and reccomend attending freestyle events to all who have not ridden one. Especially, one involving surf. But, the Cleveland event is a little tainted.
