what makes someone a "pro" as in "professional" is when their skill level gets to a certain degree to where a company sponsors them, and they do it for a living.

just because someone has a pro level of skill, doesn't mean that they're pro, it just means that their good enough to be.
until it becomes their profession and livelihood, they are not a pro.

Can you please provide a list of current "Pro" Riders that do not have a job outside of the "sport"???!!!??? :slap:

So wait that makes any pro that has a job beside jet skiing not a PRO?

That would make them AMs right? How does that make sense.

I really am at a loss as to how you did not understand what I wrote, corey.

have you not heard that there are people that carry two or three professions, or even more?

you could be a professional at ten different things, while also having the skill level to ride pro-ski, and if you aren't riding it in the same sense that mac, fish, or rius, and you don't have skat-trak, riva, etc.. sponsoring you, covering your costs, and paying you as a professional, you aren't a pro. period.

people can throw the word around as much as they want, but when it get's down to a serious business level, it takes on a totally different meaning, it's not just based on someones skill level.

Sponsorships in this day and age are usually just discounts on parts or MAYBE free parts. I know of very few Pros, from the U.S. at least, that are compensated for travel, lodging, food, etc. and I know of ZERO who are paid on top of that.

So, in reality, there is no pro class in the good ole' USA. :usa:

that's not true. there is a difference between "pro-class" and an actual professional.

racing in pro class just means you're good enough to. it doesn't mean you're sponsored by companies and getting paid to represent their products. if you have a rich uncle that wants to see you race, that dude is buying all of your parts....lol

Thats a short list..

What about guys like Ross? Does he work, or Mike S.? or Ratti?

Ross is in some type of enginerring, civil, I think the last I remember.

Serlin was a stuntman at Disney, as well as other venues.

Ratti is a full-time student still, to the best of my knowledge.

Jeremy Parr works for NASA.

Pat Bogart owns a machine shop for "regular folks" as well as "X-Scream"

Pancake Pete works in engineering, as well. CAD drawings, I think.

VERY few peeps have a full ride, and if they do---more power to them! :notworthy:

I'm sure they have other "professions", but when your on tour, when do you have time to work? how are you paying your bills and eating and living without sponsorship?

Well i know for a fact that when i go to region 7 events and Nationals or freerides that i could still have a job. I mean i might leave fridays at noon and come back sunday nights for contest weekends. And i know its no problem because for the last few years, my dad has always tagged alone to come ride and he works like every other person does. Mon-Fri 9-6. But we still make contests, freerides, and take other trips. Its just gotta be the right job and it will work.

my point is, if you're sponsored by companies as a professional, you don't come out of pocket to participate in events that they want their products represented at.

The drama can be entertaining..cracks me up when people take internet bashing so seriously..but its not productive in any way..any time you get a big group of people witha similar interest together there's bound to be some arguing. Of course we would all rather be riding. And this site provides all kind of info about the sport/hobby.
But this crap is inevitable...so just laugh it off an move on.

I have a new avatar that just says it all:" Think of a happy place" bring the love and nothing but smiles and no bad days cuz life is a cakewalk.May I present The dolphicorn.

Bunny hoppin good to hear!!!

I think this is the longest I have gone w/o riding since I have owned a ski sadly, but intend to be back at it directly! Fortunately injury free.

Any premo surf lately? I did hear you guys had a great day w/o me not long ago, but I hope you made it out for it.
