ada head?

Ive got a b1 61x im starting to buy parts to mod the motor. Im planning on a b-pipe or coffman sizzler which ever I find a deal on. I might look at doing a 62t bottom, Ive got the parts sitting her to do it. My guestion is I found an ada head with 37cc domes but its not a girdle style head should I pass or is it not a major need. I dont plan on any other major mods to the motor for awile anyways.

It's all a matter of price.
If all you want is a bump in compression than mill your stock head. Is that ADA going for less than that ?

I can get it for 150.00 I own a machine shop so milling its not a prob. Ive read up on measuring the quench for the amount to take off. So theres really no benefit to me buying a head?

Not without the girdle.

Some will say that the removable domes are a plus if a piston lets go or the O-rings make it much easier to check things over.
A stock head is what,.....$20 ?
If a piston lets go, pick up another stocker and mill it. While you are there, grove it for o-rings if that's what you want.

IMO, nothing wrong with a stock head when compared to an AM non girdled one.

Those 61X cylinders do tend to crack so a girdle is always a good idea.
Higher compression and a heavy pipe hanging off the side don't help much but when will it crack,.... who knows.

If you have a lot of money in that cylinder (porting, bigger sleeves) than you might want to protect your investment. Till than, rock the stocker.

I agree...Either go Girlded or Mill your stock one(especially since milling is free for you)

Only difference between an aftermarket one and your stock milled one will be looks, and the aftermarket one may use Orings instead of costly head gaskets. But its not like you need to be pulling the head every other week anyways.

Humm. How would this problem in the ADA head manifest itself?
I ran one particular ADA head for over three years. I blew O-Rings a couple of times and never had a problem.

not sure how it happens, just normal wear and tear i guess. i got 2 ada shells from different on the "wall of shame" both with the same problem. if you are wondering, yes they were always torqued to specs.
oh cool. send me a C/F head I will try it out.
your askin the wrong guy!

Sounds like it could have been dropped sleeves, but who knows. I've never heard of any issues with ada heads like that and with as many head companies that use ada style domes, I find it hard to believe that's a design issue rather a symptom of some other problem.

I agree that some of the two and three piece heads have a theoretical advantage over the ADA, but in practice, it's rarely(if ever)a problem. The extra o-rings required for the 2/3 piece heads and the plentiful supply of good used domes for the ADA design make it the clear choice for me. I'd also suspect a dropped sleeve or some other issue if I head two separate "worn" ADA heads.
