Anyone on here own a duel sport bike? Need to find out which would be the most comfortable and reliable one to own.

If you plan to use it off road much I would suggest wr250r. xt250 could fit the bill too if you want a cheaper option. Klr650 if you want more of a touring bike.

Guess l should have went into more detail on what l was planning on doing.Several friends are planning on going to ride to the Alaskan Coast June-July of next year.The hardest part of the journey (from what l understand) will be riding the Dalton Hwy in Alaska.From what l have found out so far a 650 will work the best. @hornedogg79 hit it close to what I'm looking for in a bike.
I haven't been on a motorcycle in a number of years,but have enough time to get reacquainted with one and make sure the bike is in top condition.Just a matter of finding the best one out there.Peter Waldren has taken several trips on a duel sport,so he might be a good one to contact.

April is RXV converted or an SXV, if you can find someone willing to let one go. I had a 450, the 550 is just ridiculous. Fast revving, liberal service intervals, great suspension, Magura hydraulic clutch, etc. MXV450 was gnarly enough to get the Japs to petition the AMA to ban it from MX racing. Have fun whatever you get.

Klr650 sounds like a cheap dependable choice.

2016 CRF450X converted Supermoto, of all the 15-20 bikes I have owned. This is the best for a city bike.

One of the KTM adventure style bikes may be your best bet! I spent some time on a supermoto KTM500exc recently. It's super nimble and pure fun compared to my RC8, nowhere near the performance, but I couldn't wipe the smile off my face!! Electric start, super smooth and easy to ride; but I don't know that I'd want to spend a ton of time on it long distance. It was pretty tapped out going down the interstate too...it would certainly be at home on the dirt though!

My cousin lives in Whitehorse and a group of them just did the reverse trip down to the Grand Canyon.

His local ride is a CRF but he bought a Triumph for the longer adventures.

The Triumph is probably not what you were thinking budget wise but I bet you don't regret the investment once you're on the road.

Personally I've always been partial to the Honda ST series. I rode an ST1100 shortly after graduation, (1991) and loved it.

Getting the search narrowed down.lt looks like the Suzuki 650 Vstrom is the best bang ($$$) and reliable duel sport bike.Seems like that is the overall choise for my use.
Detail and feature wise,l'm looking for used,one with hard cases,ABS,guards for the engine and exhaust.The private sellers for the most part are all mature adult riders.Seems like no one really younger rides them.
@The OCD Garage,Boyer l like the Triumph,but there doesn't seem to be a large used market for them.My other feeling is finding a Suzuki dealer will probably be easier and cost wise on the road.

I can't say much.....because I have had about 10 street bikes and only one dual sport.

But I gotta say this....out of ALL of the bikes I ever owned...I will alwasy kick myself for selling my street plated WR450f.....it was fun!

Good point! A good portion of that trip will be spent in Canada too so you'll want to know what's available along that portion of the route as well.

Suzuki should be pretty safe and so should KTM.

I picked up this 2017 Huske 501 almost year ago I love it, put 950 miles on it Weighing in less than 250 pounds is amazing

Been looking at several Vstrom's and a couple bmw's but after reading,the bimmer's are not as reliable as they used to be.Also,a Suzuki or other jap bikes will be easier to get worked on when riding in parts unknown

Not sure how you feel about this style but there's a couple models up around Charleston. Kawasaki should be just as accessible for service and parts as Suzuki.
