Are Yami's wannabe Kawi's

At least we got back to some of the technical discussions. So the yamaha transfer angles point more toward the head and the kawi points more toward the exhaust. I've been thinking that there is no reason why the kawi can't be made to have similar power characteristics to the yami. With all the work that goes into the yamaha engines I would think that adjusting the transfer angles of the kawi would be a lot less costly if it could be done.
 
The main thing to remember is we are riding 15+ year old design motors that they will not update and they have the new technolgy, but won't give us!! Thank the aftermarket gods for the parts and cyl. to be able to argue about this.

i dont profess to know anything about anything, but i have heard the comment made by junkyardj.. on more that one occasion... when his crank shaft has disintegrated on his SJ.. that the yami crank shafts compared to Kawi's are like paper mache'

the yamaha transfer roof angles point toward the head. the opening of the transfer points toward the center of the cylinder.


for the sake of beating a dead horse. kawi port timing is also designed for higher rpm power. you could mill the bottom of the cylinder to lower port timing.

if you're looking for cost savings it seems to me its easier to start with a lowend powered cylinder and bolt things to it for a rec/freeride motor.

that is one of the silliest statements I've ever read. stock kawi 800 cranks are known to have reliability problems.

the only reliability mine had in 100+ hrs of hard riding was me ingesting water and bending a rod.

Yamaha sucks ass, kawi rules, and for :):):):)s and giggles suzuki's the best

i dont know about the kawi 800 cranks but ive never took out any 750 cranks and so far 2 yami's.. i dont think that means yami cranks are bad it just goes along with yamaha's power to weight filosophy, they have run into this with there bike's too(gearbox) and other's...i think the power to weight might give the yami motor's a bit of an edge too.. has anyone ever compared weight of the two motors? i know the hulls are much lighter what about the rotaional mass

I've run 2 different small pin kawi cylinders now to try out different porting. My 83mm small pin with the exhaust raised about 3/16" and my current one at 81.5mm. This time I did not raise the port at all. Overall the raised port gave me the best performance. Ripped down low and all the way up. My current cylinder seems to be lacking somthing seems to still rip up top but the bottom isn't there anymore.

good point... and he uses my gas....

40:1 doesnt mean 40liters of gas to 1 pound of dirt.. but i still think the 750 crank would have even stood up to uk's gas...another forum member was riding my old 750 back in the day while it rode on one cylinder and the other was smashing the piston skirts threw the cases..i took the crank home bath'ed it and blow it out(hard to get parts in canada) the ski ran for years after...

end of story

lol.... makes no odds as they were a POS and were a couch...

so artic cat snow mobiles have a reputation for breaking down, as did tigersharks....
