So, can big pin 750 ports be modified and redirected like in the diagram? I know it will never perform the same given the exhaust port height. Or, would you need to (or can you) put SXR sleeves in a big pin cylinder?

Now you guys are also saying the ports should be angle up some as well?

Yes, epoxy/grind the ports to the way you want, using sxr sleeves will help on exh height
Angles need to go up, doing a motor this week looking at Mains=10, Auxs=25 and boost=60 for a start, will see how it rides and change from there. I have custom ada domes with 60% squish to help bottom-end

The diagrams came from HPT-Sport and are long gone by now.

They are still there, I just looked.

Click on "flow like a river" for the port castings.
RIP George.. You stubborn Polack!

I know some here remember George Grabowski from rec.sport.jetski news group "back in the day".
I have talked with him on the phone before several times. He was a much different person in person than he was on the net. He was one of the biggest a-holes on the forums.

Lots of info on that site. Just for those that haven't checked it out, here's some pictures of the differences in ports that people were talking about:

HPT-Sport, that name sounds familiar. Was that the old guy from Tenn. or Kentucky who used to piss off everyone on the old rec.sport.jetski newsgroup? A vile old bastard who didn't know english all that great but was pretty good with 2 strokes?

I just finished reading the rest of the posts in this thread and got my answer. HPT-Sport was George Grabowski, now I remember. Some people used to call him "Grabaslowski" lol

Thanks there is some good info flying around now. I want to start building my own motors and am trying to get as much understanding as possible.

You know, I've read that the exhaust port height on Kawis are what contribute to poor bottom end and better top end, but I took some measurements of some cylinders I have here and other measurements from around the pornoweb and here's what I found:

Exhaust port height:

Yami 61x - 40mm
Yami 62t - 38mm??
SX Small Pin Kawi - 43mm
Other Small Pin - 41mm
Big Pin Kawi - 39mm
SXR - ???

So really, it's not port height that has to do with the supposed lack of bottom end on a Kawi. It would be the main/boost/transfer port difference as listed above. Now exhaust port design might play into it where Kawi exhaust ports are more oval and Yami ports are more rectangular.

I say "supposed" because I just picked up a 750sx with a Factory pipe and aggressive race porting (38.7mm exhaust port height and some changes in intake ports as well) and that thing will (already has) jerk itself out of your hands while trying to deep water start. The grunt is crazy and the top end speed is crazy fast. I measured the exhaust height before ever getting it on the water. I was really surprised with how it performed.
