ATP epic

The 117 flash was made to correct the timing issue caused by the TBM's designed weaker magnetic signature, so with this flash your timing may be skewed and incorrect with the OE wheel. When I switched from TBM to OE I flashed it back to the OE file.

If you email Lisa at Airtime she will send you the file link good for 5 days, so far iam not sure if I see it on my computer, iam still checking for it and other related info though

Edit: Ok I checked the file prefix for the TBM wheel is "TBM B117"
Prefix for OE wheel is "OEM B117" so your at the OEM flash level already
I did see my last two digits are 35 and yours is 75 not sure what that's about

funny my serial number says OEM B 117 _ _ _ _ so maybe that's the issue?

I have been dealing with Chris all along. I swapped ALL the other items from stator to coil to rectifier. finally the only resolution I got was installing a stock cdi on my 1105 with a dry pipe. even with the instant rev limiter it ran better than it did with the epic. so far I have wasted weeks of time, bought a flywheel stator and a bunch of other stuff. now I'm told I need to send this to the UK to have it inspected and then if it tests bad I will get a replacement. with any luck I'll be riding by august. I am not the most happy person right now. I'll be putting total loss back on for a few weeks I guess.

Totally understand your not being happy, i would send it back too, a pain of course but you are running out of options!

Brian...hmmm,odd.

harbor..We tested a number of tbm flywheels and also found some to work and some not to work, you would think it would be the magnet type or strength. Turned out not to be the case, take the 4 little allen screws out of the back of the fw and look at the way the magnets are secured and youll see the issue. I had one that was so bad if you shook it really hard you could hear a magnet moving around inside of it. Odd that it would smooth out for ya at high rpm and hold the timing true, possibly the centrifugal force starts to over come the vibration and stabilizes the magnet...just speculating here...could just be turning faster the cdi is stabilizing it electronically, where does the hx3 change from anolog to digital?

That's funny you took the 4 screws out, I'd never would of thought to tinker with those. Interesting find, Tim from TBM did say they reduced the magnets but you've found issues with magnet mounting & movement, ya that can't be good.

On water mine would smooth out after I got some speed up with less load, on the trailer it won't smooth even at full throttle, it also could not attain full rpm on the trailer, maybe 4k max

Interesting stuff @masterblaster thanks for posting your findings

harbor.. I did have some pics of it around here somewhere,At one point before I fig out how to water proff a tl system very well for surf,I had most every lightweight charging flywheel testing them with the epic,I took a pic of all them of a dig scale, think I posted it on the X somewhere. The newer jetinetics 62t, RAD,and tbm. The tbm was far lighter but the jetineticss was made better,I got it to work with a epic as well using a timing light and moving the stator to true up timing. Well for a while anyway, the epic couldnt handle the heat and eventually stopped working, just as alot of other epics did,From the looks of this thread I doubt the hx3 will be much diff over time.debatable now,but revisit this thread in a yr and we will see.

I found a charging ign to be a waste of time now that tl is done up in a sealed box, unless money is reallyyyyy a issue they arent worth the time messing with in a yami

so far i have been running an hx3 all season. the only issue i had was with a fuse connection inside my ebox...which was my fault. but one season is not alot of time so we will see how it goes.

Have you considered just going to a msd enahancer, they worlk reallly well. Its not atp,s fault every one who has tried to do a yamaha igntion for these boats has had major dramas. I tried it myself and lost alot of money in the process

Wet or not these seem to be a crap shoot every time. We had one work in both skis and the other didn't work in either. We sent it back to ATP and they told me it had to be something else in my setup because they found no problem. I lost half of my riding season this year due to ATP. When they work, they work great.

Well, I swapped back in a stock 61x cdi just to get the ski on the water. Not only did the ski noticeably not run as good as when it had epic, but not there is a constant draw on the battery even when the ski is off. I've killed two batteries in two days.

Yeah, I emailed them earlier and am waiting for a response. If they wanna send me another epic hx3 I'll give it another shot. If not I'll probably end up with an MSD.

That constant draw might have been part of why your epic died. Or its not dead, and the draw on the battery is causing the epic not to work.
