Im sure you could depending on what the rest of your setup is like. It not something I would do but as it holds alot of heat up top and it will stop overrev at best and deto pistons at worst

What is the draw on the battery when the ski is off? have you tried swapping other components and battery? Will be interesting to hear if you get a replacement for free,or the same unit sent back with everything is fine sticker... Try it in another ski before you send it off....

can you get away with advancing the static timing on the stator 3-5 degrees when using an msd enhancer?
On a b piped setup sure. A power factor pipe needs timing pulled back at higher rpm to make the pipe work the way it needs to. The enhancer curve does not retard the timing much at the higher rpm points. This is where the epic really shines, it's just a matter of getting one that actually works.

Enough of a draw that by the time I got home from the lake yesterday, a 45 minute drive, that my battery was dead. Tried two different batteries and it killed them both. Didnt start til I swapped in 61x cdi. Could I have hooked up wires wrong somewhere? I may try to swap epic back in and see if I can get it to work

Well, ATP emailed me back and said I was outside of the 90 day warranty window so I probably won't be getting a replacement. Good news though, I took the hx3 and put a heat gun to it, hoping to dry up any moisture that could have gotten in. I sanded all the connections, sanded grounds, cleaned ebox and hit every connection with dialectric gel and put it all back together and the ski fired. Hopefully it'll keep running and this is not a temporary fix. Gonna seal ebox up real good with silicone and hope for the best!

You should find out what's causing the parasitic draw. The diodes in the regulator/rectifier might be shorted (ever reversed bat polarity?), that could run you bat down. Hook a meter up while running the engine and see if you're getting at least 13.something. Or better yet test with box open.
Don't leave leash plugged in at rest. The original Epic would draw 5 milliamp when thusly energized.

If it killed the battery in 45 min, thats a big draw, what size battery and how many hours of run time on it before ride home? use the meter to check the draw with ski off, open the box and swap another regulator with meter hooked up and see what it does. Be careful with a heat gun and epic, the caps are very sensitive to heat.Water is usually not the cause of failures unless the wbox is swamped in water. Its the heat that roasts them over time. ive heard a few that start to develop issues lose spark when hot, then when cool gain spark back for a short period before failing again.

I rode a ski with MSD TL this weekend. I can feel the gains, but I REALLY don't want to mess with all the BS associated with TL.

Is the HX3 programmable ignition a good in-between option between Enhancer and TL?

As long as your electronics are up to par, yes. I think the original epic got a bad name because it had issues. The new hx3 has been great for me, no problems. Just make sure your stator checks out good.

My epic hx3 cost me a starter and Bendix after I used it for a short season with all new oem electronics. It's one thing to perform poorly but it's another to cause damage to other parts. ATP is helpful for troubleshooting but their warranty is limited to 90 days. Not worth the risk.
