It's probably a #zero with his paint thing he does after he machines it. Just a guess.

I'm curious how in the world a ignition would cause all that to happen?

I'm considering a FLAME as well... But the HX3 is more in my comfort zone $ wise.

Swap if u set either up correctly (100%) they work. I've owned epics and flames. Both have worked as advertised and been reliable. OEM components all the way with solid connections and grounds. Zero complaints. 4 year old Flame now.

On the flip side, MSD components can work worry free too if set up correctly...And the enhancer is way more forgiving than an Epic in terms of questionable or problematic components. I've owned plenty of MSD stuff that's proved its reliability as well. I learned the hard way on a couple TL brains about good wiring and solid grounds. It's no fun frying a brand new brain.

Can't go wrong with either brand. I recently had fantastic customer support from ATP and have had good support through MSD when I was trouble shooting them years ago.

true...Any questionable elecs and either epic will not live long. but Ive personally had and spoke with more than a few epic and hx3 owners with new elecs that had them go bad within a few months. The flame handles heat better with no analog to dig conversion and lasts much longer. epic and hx3 failures give huge pre ignition on start circuit when they fail and cause kick back hard enough to shear flywheel gears, break off teeth on starter, and bendix, that get caught in fw and destroy stator, put flat spots in wrist pin bearings, and damage rods. Use a Google search atp epic/atp hx3/xh20. the search function here sucks. Its not a rare happening. There are quite a few threads here going back yrs all with the same type issues i listed and whats pictured above.almost never covered under warranty replacement, much less all your other broken parts.... msd tl do fail sometimes also...but if it fails,it just doesnt make spark at all, Ill take that over grenades thrown at my motor.

Didn't you have total loss problems at the Carolina beach ride?

nope, ground wire broke,to much work to take dry box out on beach, motor has to come forward, and box sealed eight ways from sunday. that said, this msd tl is the first dual dig unit that came out,its close to 10 yrs old. first 5 yrs of it its life out of dry box the rest in the dry box in salt water every ride....still workin, only have replaced one coil.

Isn't your ebox mounted on the side of your hull? Seems like it would be pretty easy to get to.

2 years on 2 different hx3s and I have no idea what preignition or starting issues you are talking about. I also have not heard of hx3s failing like the old epic. Did you make the hx3 stories up or can you post them?
I do believe my hx3 drains my battery. In 3 weeks even with the tether unplugged, other than that they have been great ignition for me.

Pretty sure most of his info is based on the older epic. It did cause backfire issues and too much advance on start up. The hx3 actually has a fixed start advance, you can put 40 degrees on your curve, but the hx3 will only give your 12 till your motor is running.

My epic hx3 cost me a starter and Bendix after I used it for a short season with all new oem electronics. It's one thing to perform poorly but it's another to cause damage to other parts. ATP is helpful for troubleshooting but their warranty is limited to 90 days. Not worth the risk.
What curve were you running, was that a oem bendix.
