I think the confusion is coming from the software defaulting to the "Search Multiple Content Types" option, which is useless.

I want to highlight this again for people who think the forums need to change. That is the most important part of your search. It's not bad once you learn how to use it. My only complaint is I haven't figured out a way to search a phrase because it defaults to searching for all words separately. Tried using + and quotes but it doesn't seem to help.

The search function in vbulletin 4 sucks IMO, they really messed it up with the upgrade. But, it is what it is, you can use google if you want, put site:x-h2o.com in with whatever else you want to search for, including phrases like "darin stinks" or whatever.

I think we can do away with the ebay section, There is not really ever any good stuff on ebay, just overpriced oem stuff with only buy it now prices.
just my .02

I found it finally, but had to select "Posts" rather than "Forums" in my search criteria before it would show up.

I turned off compatability viewing as well and it solved the problem of the text and background both defaulting to white when editting a post.

You're not doing it right. Are you sure you followed my steps?

In the first drop down list (labeled "Search in Forum(s):" , select the forum(s) you want to search in.
Leave the search type as posts.
Then type in your keyword and search.

Still Think we need at the very least a new sub forum for new parts, jet maniac, cold fusion ect. ect..

We need a way to find these people, yes some I know off the top of my head but most I don't and as i will be building a new ski shortly, it would be nice to have access to this info

What about sellers who have both new and used parts and parting skis like jetmaniac?
Would they list in both sections? I prefer all sellers together.

The ebay section is a link to jetski related ebay listings and Im pretty sure it's automatically setup so when you click the link then x-h2o gets a commision for that part when you buy it. If Im right about that then its a valuable forum that pays for itself and is worth keeping. I sometimes scan through just for that reason and sometimes find things on there. A lot of times when people buy things online they forget to paste the link here before they purchase it so this is an easy one that is already setup for us and also helps support our favorite site with the commision.

As for the for sale section... I dont mind it how it is now with the amount of traffic there is on here. If there were a lot more listings then I could see maybe separating some things. I have too many skis to be looking to buy another one so I wouldnt search the "ski for sale" section but you never know when theres a deal that you just cant pass up. I like the variety because I end up finding things I like and can make good use of that I would never think to search for.
As for the dealers... Most of us know where to go for new parts and I think they get extra publicity by posting in the general for sale thread but I could also see the benefit for a "dealers only section". I could kinda see separating Yamaha and Kawi parts but then you need to open up another section for "other" so unless things get more populated then they are now, I see no need for it but I am open to change and wont mind if it does happen

I've been happy ever since the different ski sub forums were made and the tags were made. I have no complaints. I like it the way it is. I haven't had any issues with the search function or finding items in the for sale section.

I have a suggestion...

Perhaps add a "Prefered Vendors" sub forum with the for sale section. I'm sure there can be sub forums in sub forums. Above the "For Sale" can be a "Preferred Vendors" and once you click on the forum, it takes you to a sub forum that lists each individual vendor by a forum title of their choosing. Upon clicking that forum title, it takes you to the vendors private forum. That Vendor can moderate that sub forum, sticky threads, post instructionals or w/e, it'd be their little place for a fee. It's optional, if you don't want to pay the fee, post in the for sale section like everyone else.

Example...

Instead of clicking "For Sale", I click the link above it labeled "Preferred venders". Then once in that Sub-forum, I get an additional list of Forums... "JetManiac", "Xmetal", "OCD Solutions", etc... So I click "Jetmanic" and it opens his private forum he gets to moderate with threads like "Jetmaniac master parts list", "Ask Jetmaniac" etc., whatever he decides to make it.

The questions are 2. Would these people be willing to pay the fee and would the forum users use the privately moderated sub-forums? I guess that would depend on how that would be set up, but chances are, if I wanted to see Xmetals list, I'd just go to the website they pay to manage, but then again, how long does it take a new user to discover Xmetal? Took me quite a while. 4 years and I'm still noticing new vendors. I didn't even know someone from Dasa was on this forum until last month. I think I've only known about Dasa for 3 or 4 months. They are not in my price range so I hadn't looked, but if they where, who's to say I would have found them anyway?

I am all for the seperation of Ski parts for sale vrs full skis.
I am a moron and cannot propperly navigate the search function to where it is worth using though.

Dont know about the dealer section though, maybe if the USED / NEW were easier to search we wouldnt need it?
I do think it would be cool to see the dealers that use this site for sales get a NOT FOR PROFIT banner scrolling accross the top vrs the current banner that scrolls with randum stuff. Not sure what the costs are involved in doing so but I bet the dealers would pay them if reasonable.

you dont get any banners if you subscribe.......

to tidy up the for sale section post dumping and the conversations that go on on some threads should be moderated a little more also....

If a new forum were going to be made, a dealers section would be kind of cool. Im not complaining but it would be nice for dealers to have all their parts accessible though a page or two without having to search trough a bunch of clutter trying to find that one part.

It doesn't bother me cause JetManiac and the sellers whom I choose to buy from a very organized and it's not difficult for me to find things. The only people I can see that benefiting are those who are newer and less experienced with the site and may not be as familiar with the search functions. Some people feel more comfortable buying from a dealer (JetManiac, Optima, Steve-UK ect...) than an everyday person because there is less of a risk factor when purchasing.

Other cool thought is have some kind of ribbon or badge for paid members that are viewable in their "information section" to the left of their post. It may or may not be an incentive, but it would look cool. More people pay when there is more of an incentive, with less incentive less people buy....

Why do you think people donate to the ASPCA? For the free jacket and calendar! DUH! ;)

Paid members' usernames are bold/italicized, like steve-uk's and jetmaniac's above.
