Shoe goop is like Silicone on steroids.

Cut the front bumper down a little bit, not sure if I am going to fill it in up to the bumper leaving a small amount as a water deflector or leave it trimmed.
Cut the rear 2.5"
Spent about 4 hours sanding with die grinders, by hand, and with an electric grinder.
At 11pm finally got to poor epoxy and 404 filler in half of the bond line.

Hoping to get the tray and foot holds done tomorrow.

Any tips on reinforcing the pole mount area? There are A LOT of ribs and uneven spaces under there!

This project is way more work then I thought! Luckily my dad is helping me out and letting me make a mess of his garage. :hail:

Cut the back and made sure to keep the same angles. Used a compass and square to make it perfect. What are you guys doing about the two missing ride plate bolt holes? Is the ride plate ok to ride with just the 4 bolts or should I drill new holes?

The foam cutting table that my dad threw together. Has 3 different power settings and quick detach so you can pull it off the table and use it by hand.

Also filled in the bond line, put the first two layers of fiberglass over the back, and put one layer over the holes in the engine bay. The resin mix only lasts 10-15 minutes before it turns into a gel, yet the fiberglass takes FOREVER to dry.

Dont forget to move the exhaust tube hole down in the bottom of the tray so you can run the exhaust tube straight. If you stay with the same angle it will not allow you to fit the foot holds in the place you want them.

Regarding the ride plate...most cut it in a reverse d and get rid of the back section that no longer has a place to bolt in. Get the nose up quite a bit

What's blowsions price right now? Go and check out their price+shipping, then go to hydroturf.com and see the difference with shipping. Hydroturf has a shipping calc, not so sure that blowsion does though. I'd say 60 shipped for a roll of b stock molded diamond isn't bad. Not sure if you're family with hydroturf's website or not, but go to products for sale, closeouts and clearance section, and then sheets of turf. Well I guess posting a link is easier so I'll do that lol. http://hydroturf.com/products/Closeouts_and_Specials/Sheets_of_Turf What underpad are you going to go with?

Agreed...I rarely buy from Blowsion if I can go direct. HT seems to have the best price +shipping (usually). I have used b stock on three of my skiis and have yet to find any flaws in it, but if you want a different color they always have great deals on close out.

For underpadding try and find a local upholstery shop. Buy closed cell foam. I have found 4 different widths of padding at mine and a yard (which is plenty) and I think it was $12.00/yd and way nicer than the stuff from HT. I did 3 skiis out of 2 yards (the min they would sell me).

If the weather wasnt so perfect I would already have started mine...but I just can't tear into her yet.

Would one sheet of the HT be enough for the tray, and along the outside of the splash guard?

If you don't screw up and that's all you do, tray and not turfing rails, you should be golden! You're not turfing your chinpad or rails tho?
Btw, Love to see basic builds..Because their realistic! I'll have a simple build this winter too. Wide tray, defoam, my own footholds, reinforcing, etc. Rn pole, the good stuff.
Looking good so far!

By splash guard I meant rails. Looks like I will need two sheets. Want to put it along the outside like this:

I am about to open mine us as well. I drilled a hole in it today to ensure I would start and not keep riding it. LOL>
Yes two sheets for sure. You'll have a lot left over but will not have enough with just one sheet.

The tray took about 1.25-1.5 sheets (3x4' and 2" thick). Next time I will do two part. It takes way to long to cut out all the pieces to fit perfect.

I did some more sanding this weekend. Then decided to go to the lake instead and tune my wb1 and JS550.

Quinc, I would recommend 3M 5200 instead of shoe goop. I prefer the fast set (24 hours is fast?) compared to the standard (48 hours) but it is a little more expensive. They have it at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart sometimes, Academy sports, and of course places like West Marine. ABout $8 a tube. I use it to adhere my bilge pumps to the hull, resealing the exhaust and waterlines, resealing or filling the bond line, stuff like that. Also good for resealing the tops of the pump and ride plate "nuts" while you have the tray open.

Project is looking good! I didn't have the cohones to try shortening my hull. Looking forward to hearing how yours rides when you get it back together. BTW, extra turf is always handy, just did the bottom of my waterbox and the hull under the fuel tank with some extra I had. Seems to be a good option.

How much is the foam from Home depot? have you started to glass all all yet? I am not sanding my entire hull so the hours I should have in it are less. How much time you have in your ski on just the defoam, refoam, hull chop?

good part of cutting your own foam is it will never absorb water when you get that inevitable leak! I agree though cutting all the funky shapes is a pain and I only did half the space you did! I did a combo, cut polystyrene the did the pour foam to fill voids and make it nice and tight. (Can I say that on here?)

I ended up going with 5200. Some advice would be to use the 5200 before trying to put foam into the tray. Took a few days to get it all off my hands. :)

I got 4 of the smaller sheets for 12$ I probably have about 6 hours into the defoam, refoam, and hull chop.

Sanded down the fiberglass and a little deeper around the hull so the next layer of fiberglass will lay flush.

Wear gloves next time...haha. And yes foam can be had at Home Depot or Lowes for about $12 a sheet.

Project is looking titties good sir! Keep it up!

I wish I had the cojones to cut up mine but holds were installed and turfed last season so really don't feel the need to do it at this point.
