Beach cart users, would like your opinions.

I want to build a cart and could use any and all input from those who use beach carts.

I have a few designs in mind but no experience using these things at all. I don't know what works good and what doesn't.

A and B would be the easiest to do out of the material I have but am open to any suggestions.

BTW, No matter which one I do I will be putting a winch on it.

make yours like C. Except, dont make it disassemble. A bunch of my friends have those bigfoots and they just wear out and turn to crap. Make one like it but make it all welded, itll be much stronger and last longer

it's got a wide footprint, it's relativly low and has a winch. it's easy to pull and very stable. it's also put togeter with pins so it comes apart easily for road trips

i dont think a winch is necessary for a standup in typical situations.

1' width on the bunks is ideal.

i would just make it like you have in the second pic of the ladder. just weld some cross supports in the rear and make some pvc bunks and pretty much call it a day.


you might want a tongue for it if you use a quad or golf cart or something on occasion.

once you have something built you just need to find a sweet spot where the ski doesn't feel heavy.

C- would be the toughest to make out of what I have although I do like the design. The only problem I see would be the size, since it all has to fit on my single trailer this could be an issue.
I'm sure I could make it work but would need to continue the materials hunt.

I think a winch might be helpful for when I would need to pick up a friends couch or if the ski was full of water and I was all alone.


As for the ladder, I picked up 2 for free from a company that builds docks. The guy who actually worked in the yard was quite happy when I gave him $20 for his trouble and he promised he would get me more.
The cool thing is that the top section (the one with the bend) slides right into the bottom part.

i think youre going to have to cut out the rungs from the ladder. theyll hit the keel if you leave them.

I have the tyres and an axle at the shop.

Yes, there is more cutting to be done. I already started on the upper part and since it's all aluminum I can file the welds to where you wont know a thing.
The removed rungs will make up the axle supports.

i got the same one and recc. for the same reasons, plus i've gotten a xl1200 on it a couple of times and it holds great

I've made one similar to A & B. Works well for my intentions but key point to remember when building it is that the tail of the ski will sit where the handle is to make it easier to lug around..... make sure this is lower so water will pool-up at the bilge, drain out of the tray and scupper.

I've had a recent bad experience with a PVC cart (stand actually). But if you want it out of PVC, cut some 2"x4" pieces of wood so they fit tightly inside the PVC pipe (for extra support).

Its a 650......

It holds up well for my usage, just lugging to and fro the garage to boat dock or vehicle to ramps. It was cheap to make and really only temporary, but its held up well. But I'm also careful not to drop the ski on it or slam it down. I haven't used it on the beach and probably never will, I imagine it would need better tires...........

Yeah, I'm aware of it being 'fragile'. I also used the grey stronger pvc (40 or 80) at the stress points.
