Beach cart users, would like your opinions.

by the way, that is a cool idea to incoroprate the cart into the trailer. Since you already have bunks on the cart, no need for them on the trailer. That makes a lot of sense! Gets rid of the extra steps: from trailer to dolly; from dolly to trailer; stowage of dolly on trailer.

Todd,
are you going to stick that SX on the trailer or the truck ?

Lee (Spokewrench) has a nice PVC cart that is the same height as the bed of the truck. Makes loading a breeze.
If you need some aluminum for the cart I have a good hook up.

Boris, maybe I missed it, but what has the total run you for the cart? I'm really wanting to make myself one for next year. I figure, if I can make one and not use the launches, the $500 totes would pay themselfs off with in 50 launches, however, I would much rather have the extra $$$ to put into my tank...

I am working on the poor-man's design. I will take lots of pics, but i plan on using some spare angle iron and pvc in the garage. Boris has just under 100 into his.

Picked up the rolling stock today (2 wheels, 1 axle and some pins) for $70 bringing the total investment to $90.

Where did you find the wheels/axle at that price? And what size are they??

Old, but still ridin'!!!
Since this thread has been resurrected, I'll throw out a pic of my tote.

It was primarily used at race sites that weren't sandy so I originally just used old trailer tires. Needs some big tires to make it beach worthy.

My wheels were free, pulled them off an old trailer. Works great on hard surfaces, but they suck in the sand.

Good think about my tote/cart is that I can store it completely flat by pulling 3 pins (one on each wheel and one on the handle)

Since this threads up again, anybody have a cheaper source for the big, SMOOTH, balloon tires? Cheapest we can find is around $200. We have a cart similar to cart D and a Rolleez (similar to cart C) and we LOVE the Rolleez tires and hate the treaded tires on cart D. They pick up lake mud like nobody's business. We never take it to a lake anymore, occassionally take it to the beach. Usually use it as garage cart/stand. The winch on the Rolleez is VERY handy. I absolutely would not be able to get my ski on the cart off the beach by myself without it. It's much easier even with others helping.

I was just picking up some steel at alro and the guy said he has been using a less than $100 dock mover that he bought at menards or lowes to pull his hoble cat around teh sand. I am taking my digital camera to the store tonight to see if i can find anything. The tires he said are designed to handle the soft sand.

Here's a pic of mine. It's an old Roleez Jeteez cart. Turbo, you should be able to find one of these for cheap if you're persistent. I paid $250 for this one this time last year. I just picked one up a week ago, needs some cleaning & tweaking, for $50.

I made mine from steal. I could use some bigger tires to make it easier to roll. I still have to tweak it to keep the ski on it and a good pull spot.

Boris, thats about the easiest setup I ever saw, congrats:thewave:

just contact 321Kawasaki in Kansas, they sell the old Kawasaki X2 totes for about $175.00.
I took the easy way out and ordered this one last week after seeing it on a Pismo thread

:sneaky:I have used Skinnydudes (Type C) many times and it works great

Here's the way I see it, I have $90 in my cart that is set up to work for me.
The wheels (that are just large lawn tractor wheels) did cost the most, the rims are steel which may not be the best material (after almost a year of salt are still doing quite well). Since than I have picked up a few more used sets from old lawn mowers for free. Once this set rusts out I will just slap the next set on.

The plastic wheels are nice as are the ready made carts but no way in hell am I willing to spend $400-500+ on one.

Now I have access to a large bender and a good source for the raw aluminum so my next cart will be some what nicer. That is if I ever find the need to replace this one.

Thongbonger on the site built this out of a hand truck and a piece of metal a couple 2X2's and it works great. Not the strongest but he hasn't broke it yet. Total build cost $30 but he added larger tires off of a free lawn mower. And he says it rolls great across Texas sand.

BTW, this what it looks like now.

No more wooden bunks to dry rot, just simple rollers.
