Nice job Boris

I have D and the winch lets me do everything by myself. I'm not a big and strong person so it's very helpful. I can go from the beach to the trailer by myself.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but what are you using to hold the axle in place here? Where did you find it?

I ground down 2 plastic rollers and mashed them in on either side of the axle tube.
Something like this
http://shop.easternmarine.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.prodInfo&productID=4833&categoryID=201
Than I slid the axle in and used a large washer and cotter pin on either side to prevent it from coming out.

Am I making sense ?
If not than let me know and I'll take some pictures.

Thanks mister.

I agree, a winch would help and I will add one as soon as I find one that isn't heavy or rated for 600LBS or doesn't rust right away.
I can get the ski from beach to trailer by my self quite easy as is, which is probably why I haven't bothered with the winch. One day I will have one.

Sorry for bringing up such an old thread but I REALLY like your setup Boris. How has it been working out for you the last couple of years? Have you made any changes to it? Any recent pics or does it still look the same?

I tow w/ a Honda Civic so I don't have much room to pack a beach cart or much power to get out of the loose sand where I launch and it would be so nice to have the cart built into the trailer like that.

Thanks!

Jeremiah

I stopped working on the setup a long time ago. Works just about perfect for my needs so I don't even think about modding it any further.
It looks just like the last 2 pictures and is holding up great. Still on the original steel wheels which do show some rust but as yet, I haven't had to add any air to them. A winch on the cart might be nice but honestly I don't think is worth the extra weight. Never had a problem getting the ski up on the cart, if I'm by my self I just go into knee deep water and the ski floats right onto the cart.
The rollers on the trailer work like a charm, one person can load up the ski and cart with just a light push on the back of the ski. Height is just about right to work on the ski and after I wash it I just pull it back off the trailer without the cart wheels and all the bilge water runs out.

Yep, I'm happy with the deal.

...the $500 totes would pay themselfs off with in 50 launches, quote]

That is a dream. The lake I launch at charges $30 per launch for a PWC (they only charge until 9:00, and I work until 8:30, so it's not too bad.) Even so, I have thought about one of these for weekends. I would love to walk by them to the beach and launch.

Thanks for the ideas- it was a thread well worth reading.

Boris waht kind of steel did you use for the axle? im starting to make mine and was wondering if u used anything in particular. Im making mine out of 4130 chromoly and big ole' ATV tires. i was thinking some aluminum or stainless rod.....but what are your thoughts....sorry to bump the old thread!

Just used some cheap bar stock from Home Depot, it held up great for 2 years of all salt use. I recently replaces the wheels, bushings and axle but only the wheels rusted out.
