Best charger for agm battery,DEKA<ODDYSEE

Im sick of this old charger i have overcharging batteries . I would like to buy a charger that will do ski and auto batteries, looks like this one would be the best for ski agm batts, but it wont work for auto batts, anyone ever use this smart batt charger black and decker makes? Im not sure in its 3 stage charge if it goes higher than 14.5 volts, this seems to be the biggest deal no no for agm batts, anyone have experience with this charger or one like it,there is also a 15-10-2 amp that may be better for ski batts

I don't know about that one, but this is what I use home depot search this item # HSK1085HD
The thing has an unbelievable amount of options, is AGM, and all other battery friendly. It also has the boost cycle for jump starting your car. I picked it up at my local Home Depot, because the internet site was out of stock.

that looks to be much like this charger, great price on that too,I just need a smaller charger I can put under the hood shut and locked of some of my cars,to maintain a charge for alarm purposes,I dont drive them very often,I need to charge them once a month over night.

I kinda like the 15 amp current on this other charger, would seem to charge agm ski batts quick without over volting 15

that husky charger looksnifty, but there is nothing there that says it will charge an odyseyy battery the correct way.

voltage must stay between 14.0-14.7 volts

Ive got the same charger that MattE has ( that ruined his batteries after repeated charges) it cant get the battery voltage over 13.8.

and it has a setting for AGM/gel.

the real deal chargers that Odesyy recommends are like $200 or so.

XPBRI,

have you checked the voltage on that charger while charging an odessy battery?

I don't know that there's any real evidence that Matt's charger ruined his batteries. It may just be that they suck.

It is not in dispute that he charged them outside of the recommended method.

that charger wont charge them at a high enough voltage, according to the battery website itself.

to claim that they suck, based on MattE's experience.. well..... thats not very logical.

Lets just say that I would like to see him try again with a recommended charger.

if you run 210 psi on 87 octane and it detonates, do you blame the piston manufacturer?

Tsk tsk tsk....I've tried both the un-recommended charger, and a recommended charger (well, recommended type of charger), and they still both failed in the same time frame, same failure.

My Odyssey failed- and it has nothing to do with the charger. The battery is fully charged, I had the same type of "internal break" that Matt did. IMHO it is a POS. I bought a Deka AGM it's held up fine in the XPL, the real test will be the Jet Works in the SJ.
BTW- I'll check the charging voltage on the Husky charger, and post the results.

I also have had two fail. A Jetworks on a tender will last for years. Even running TL they last for years. A Battery Tender is better, but any low amp charger will work on a Jetworks battery. No need to get a special charger to go with your special battery. Also, try to get one warranted.

Their website didn't strike me as very advanced or maintained, for sure.
Just give them a call - very nice guy(s) to talk to.

that is a failure you can blame on the battery.

if you are charging it in a way that they recommend NOT to do, and it fails after 1 year, thats different.

yes, time will tell, I put 5 ody pc625 batteries in service this year.

one of which I have already had to charge a few times, stupid black ski that i have drowned, and rode in on the starter alone.

all are working flawless thus far.

and warranty, im not worried, I bought local for $76.xx tax and all out the door.

if I had bought all 5 batteries at the same time it would have been cheaper.. I thought I had some good batteries from last year, but it turned out I didnt.

can I also assume from this that you used one of these batteries and didnt charge per the recommended procedure?

in that case, that also renders your experience with them as inconclusive.

what charger did you use when you used them? ( and had 2 fail?)

I used an automatic 2/10/55 amp charger by Century. If it was low I used the 10 amp setting. 2 amp for occasional maintenence. The battey failure is a big issue, but the bigger issue is the near worthless 2 year warranty. If it takes 6 weeks to get a replacement, it's not really much of a warranty, IMO. I was super stoked when I saw Odyssey batteries on Ebay and was happy to have one before mine failed. The piss poor warranty is waht really soured me on them. Even if my charger is what killed them, to me that just means that the Odyssey is a finicky battery that must be handled carefully.
