Freestyle Big Bore Opinions Please

I'm slowly building my Backie Chan and I want to do it right. Can I get some opinions on the DASA 850SS from people that have actually spent some time with one. I rode one at the finals this year and it wasn't super exciting but I know many opinions will be that it comes down to set up. It happens to fit my budget but I will be dissapointed if it doesn't yank my arms and allow me to flip as my skills will allow. Just tryin to get the most bang for my buck. Thanks for the input.

Most bang for the buck is a stroker. A little more money but way more/different power when ported correctly and has the proper supporting bolt ons. SS just isn't the same and Youll be wishing you bought a stroker. Have fun

The PHP 898 is bad ass no doubt. Strokers are bit more than I should spend for now. I may wait. I was hoping someone would say that the Ol' 850 SS was great. Sure wish I liked golf!!!

I cannot speak for the other motors but for over a year I have been running a ss/pv dasa 850, b pipe 144 mag pump and 10/16 hooker in a heavy ass Rickter and I like it BUT, the reason I like it is because it makes smooth power low and hits strong through the mid range. Perfect for me as a surf ski but my setup definitely does not have the low end hit wanted by most freestyle riders. I would think with the proper port timing and setup it would be great for freestyle but that has not been my experience.

LOL..

It might help a little if you mentioned what you have already (Hull, Engine, Mods) and what your budget is, where you ride, etc..
Many would compare what they rode with the DASA 850.

Yep, a stroker, with 95mm pistons, and programable ignition, with a dry pipe. Anything less is just a waste of money.

wanderer1 did you try the tpe 964 in havasu this year?

Nope, I am unable to ride at this time. I am familiar with the motor somewhat an I believe it holds great promise, if it has not already delivered. When other motor guru's get their hands on it (everyone does things a little different) I think we will see even more of its potential.

I was a lot more impressed wth the tpe964 than any other SS motor I have ridden.

That being said, the Mightymouse motor from PHP looks like a good bang for the buck.

Spoke with Zach from PHP a few times today. Lots of info and in the end I'm gonna go with the PHP 800cc 4mil stroker. I agree with what he said as far as the importance of the supporting parts creating a powerful package. This motor fits into my budget and will allow me to spend money on big carbs, TL and a PFP to get the most out of it. I'm excited to get this this build to the next step.

not trying to deter from PHP as its a great choice. but art gomez at jetworks offers a superbore 900 with stock cases and cylinders. i know he offers smaller motors, but he a good guy. i've talked to him on the phone once or twice. just another good option

PHP is a great option and I wouldn't try to deter you from that choice either but since you came here looking for options I have to say another option is starting with the TPE964...if you ever felt the need you could upgrade to a 4mil stroker crank down the road using your same cylinder/cases. I don't believe you will find another ss engine that makes the same or more power using similar setups

+1 on this plus his maybe couple of hrs away from you (no shipping necessary) just drop it off have a chat with him :)

I do love my jetworks 900 superbore 5mm

x2. Art's 900R is nasty. Still blows my mind what he can put together with a stock cylinder. Only issue I see with this is budget. If the 4 mil 780 PHP at $2450 is the ceiling of the budget than Art's 900r will be out as its a little more for the shortblock. I wouldn't hesitate to call him though just to see what he may be able to put together within your budget. When we discussed pricing last winter he did have some 4 mil packages that were right inline with your budget. Not discouraging you from PHP in any way whatsoever, just food for thought.
