Might want to be careful on the lowered bracket. I don't know for sure but my bracket seemed pretty high. Once you build up the bottom flat and it comes out from underneath, a normal bracket is pretty low. I had to shave some of my pole off on the bottom so that it would stand straight up without gouging up the hull.

hmmm didnt think about that. I guess ill stick with the xmetal then. Hopefully the guy still has it. This purchase will officially put me overboard on budget. I currently have $45 in the wallet and $0 in the paypal:shrug:

im pretty stuck without the pole bracket. im trying to get all my holes cut before paint like bilge outlets, pissers, exhaust, scuppers ect. If anyone knows anyone with an xmetal bracket for sale PLEASE tell me. Im in dire need of a used one.

Fiberglass came today\some other parts. Ill start dressing the engine bay and filling some areas.

body work is going good. Only a couple spots I had to fill on the hull, mainly all the work on the hood. I have all the body work 95% done. Im not really too concerned about it being perfect. the ski will not be perfect and i know it will get scratched anyways. Still have to go to lowes for some mixing cups\brushes\rollers for the glass, will complete that tonight. I think I should have gotten some thinner glass the 1708 biax is SUPER thick and will be hard to work with.

Found an xmetal bracket for sale, and will be buying that. hopefully that will arrive mid week some time and get painting by the weekend.

trying to reinforce today\dress up the engine bay was a complete FAIL. I was using 1708 biax. Ive seen that a lot of people on here use the 1708 biax, I just dont see how its possible. I think it may be easier if I filled the bondline and just lay 1 big piece down instead of a top and bottom piece. But I dont really want to fill the bondline with epoxy\cabosil, maybe 2 part? Or maybe ill just use thinner glass. The glass didnt want stick at all. It was prepped properly and wetted out properly it just wouldnt stick, I even waited for it to get a little more tacky after I tried the first time.

But the glass isnt going to go to waste. I doubled it up and rolled it so hopefully it will stick to itsself and I can cut it and use it to dress up my scupper.

Didn't stick? That doesn't sound right. US Composites 3:1 epoxy? Doesn't add up. What does prepped properly mean to you?

sanded with 80 grit very well so its nice and rough. Right, using 3\1 epoxy I was using some white pigment in it, but that should not make a difference. Do you think I should fill the bondline with a mixture of epoxy\cabosil\fiberglass strands so i can just lay 1 big piece down?

I've always had problems getting thick biax and epoxy to stick. Epoxy resin doesn't have the same kind of tack that polyester does when it's wet and biax wants to hold its flat shape more as well. I typically put a few dabs of superglue, on the areas I think will give me trouble, before laying the epoxy. This keeps the fabric in place long enough for the epoxy to cure.

did you wet out both surfaces??

yes i did.. The more I look at it the less I think I will fill the bondline, its not like a normal superjet bondline this one is pretty big and would take tons of epoxy to fill.

I think I will just not use the biax and find some 8oz or something and use 2 layers of that. I will be going to the surf some, maybe like 3 times a year, and planning on going to daytona next january.

Have a pic of the bond line? If you can fold the cloth into it you will be fine. you dont want to just cloth over it flat leaving a void / air gap

pics coming soon! I got it this time. I just took a sheet longer than the bottom half, creased it into the bondline and onto the top half and layed the top piece over that. hopefully it bonds well.

The white looks good, should brighten up the bay. One things for sure, you did not use to much resin. Do you have a date you are shooting for to have it in at lease rideable condition?

You think i could use more resin? I fully soaked the glass, front and back, and made sure it wasnt dripping, and then used some more resin on the surface its self. I just didnt want to use too much. and this stuff soaks a TON of resin. It probably just doesnt look like it because of its color. It makes it hard to tell if its soaked or not while working the resin through.

I plan to have it done by June 9th. Thats my last day of school and on the 10th Im leaving for Mass and I want to ride it before then. I might have it done before though. Im just waiting on a payment from some other guy for some hockey gear and then I can order my xmetal bracket, hopefully that will arrive mid week and I can cut slots for that\build up material underneath and I can get painting this weekend or the following week.

im going to get some lighter weight glass to kind of like taper down the reinforcement so I dont have as big of weak spots at the end of the reinforcement. I plan on doing the other side tomorrow.

It really sucks waiting on stuff to cure. Paint, resin, etc. It all takes under an hour to apply and you typically can't touch anything else for the rest of the day. Really slows progress!
