John, did you have voids between your deck and hull where it came together, something that would have to be filled in?

Did I have voids in the bond lines? Did I ever... Dan sent me a huge tube of 5200 to fill those voids between the bond lines which were crooked to all hell. One of the worst voids was almost 3/4" wide!!! I filled them with fast cure 5200 that I bought and gave the regular 5200 tube to mcdog to use on ncbrocks hull since he had more time for cure. I then was forced to add an additional 40-50 rivets to the bond line to get it within a form of semi-acceptable straight condition. For the record, we were much more careful on ncbrocks hull.

Which areas are you talking about having voids? The bondline or the area between the top and the pump on the bottom half and the tray on the top half? I didn't use the 5200 or pliogrip as "filler" in any areas. We used them for actually bonding the surfaces that are touching.

You can buy Dupont NASON Series Urethane Single Stage enamal pretty cheap. 1 Qt will cover a ski. 2 Quarts if your going multi color. All you do is Reduce it and add the hardner. I think I may have averaged $100.00 per paintjob.

yes what voids are you guys talking about? I was just orginally just talking about the edge of the bondline where there was no gelcoat. I think Im well off what sanoman is talking about, shane and john did a good job bonding and if I do have to do any filling, its minimal. Should I use 5200 or just some epoxy\cabosil?

Im going to have to pay a pretty price to get the gulf blue color I really need. I have specific color codes for the color or colors I need for ppg paints, but that will be super expensive.

I believe this is the void that Sanoman and I are talking about. Your hull shouldn't have this BS since Shane and I had vise grips on either side of the rivets when we installed them. Huge PITA to do but far superior to the crap I got.

Brock, the gelcoat missing on the edge there shouldn't matter at all because you will turf over it. I'd say paint over it and don't worry about filling it or trying to make it any prettier.

Sounds like you got it under control. An yes, that is what l was talking about too.We used about 20 pairs of vise grips and welding grips to squeeze mine together. No voids

Well Im going to talk to some people I know for some paint (race city usa!) surely I can get some deals, paint needs to be ordered REALLY soon. I have a slight delay, my dremel broke so I have to buy a new one of those (not cheap!) Pole bracket comes monday, that will be the biggest paint in the ass, measuring 1000 times and cutting once. And I have to create a TON of buildup on the underside, which will take about 3 days for waiting on drying of layers and whatnot.

What should I use for a breather tube for the pole and what should I use for the hood? Can those be purchased at home depot or lowes or someplace like that?

Installing the pole bracket really wasn't that bad. I just winged it and it turned out great. I used bondo hair for the build up and that stuff hardens in about 5-10 minutes. Sanded it by hand after another 10-15 minutes and crank out another layer. Took about 4 layers I believe and my entire bracket build up took maybe 2-3 hours mostly because I kept getting side tracked during my waiting. Just flip the ski upside down on the stand and stick your head up in there with a lamp. Just build up the sides and not the center. The goal is to make the sides flush with the center.

The breather tubes like I have are basically pool vacuum hoses. Should be able to pick up some at Lowes.

You think I should use bondo hair instead of epoxy\cabosil\fiberglass strands? I would think that would a huge stress area, and Im surprised the bondo hair has held up for you, but youve been on the water for a while now so I guess its alright.

It is a huge stress area and bondo hair is much weaker than a true epoxy laminate but I can't see it being a huge deal stronger than epoxy and some random filler. Both are basically just a resin with crap in them. Stronger or weaker doesn't really matter since the filler is purely in compression. The epoxy will bond better but you don't need to worry about bonding since the bolts will hold the material in place unless your bolts start loosening up.

As long as the material isn't brittle and break apart and doesn't compress too much under load, it will be fine. The whole point of the filler is to give the bracket a flat surface to mount to and transfer the loads from the bracket to the hull. You could mount it without filler but it would put a bending stress on the hull and the bracket that would inevitably wear out over time.

After I figured out where .. and cut the holes for the bracket .I wrapped my handle pole bracket with aluminum foil and silver(not grey) duct tape. I then put on the layers of glass/epoxy ( i used 12 oz bi ax) on the underside . Then I sat the bracket in place and applied pressure to the bracket,( used clamps ) to make the bracket fit exactly where i put the glass. ( after it dried I pulled the bracket , removed the tape ) waalaa the bracket fits perfectly!!

thanks for the tips guys. in the meantime... heres the new member to the family that took my garage space. 2000 M coupe. only 11 made of this color without a sunroof.
