Brocks Gulf Tribute Build! **Test Ride\Problems**

Pole bracket shipped today. That will be a fun process. Reinforced the other side today. Working with the white pigment is a pain it gets dirty just being exposed to the air! I somehow got resin in my hair. White resin to make it better... To be honest I'm having a good time so far. It's definately a learning experiance

You are right,l think more than anything the experiance is worth a ton! One of the other good things was making contact with several users on the the X when l needed advise. l diff made some great friends on here during this process.

so here is what paint comes down to:
http://www.jamestowndistributors.co...amilyName=Interlux+-+Brightside+Polyurethane#

its pretty expensive down to the quart, but they have the right color I need and I dont have to use reducer or anything, just roll it on.

Or I can use rustoleum, which is $8-12 a GALLON but I will have to buy 2 gallons (1 of white and 1 of blue to get the right color) plus I will have to mix and reduce and trial and error over and over to get it perfect. I dont know which route I will go, because I surely assume I will use more than a qt. probably over 2 qt's

Well Im not sure if Im going that route anymore. There are mixed reviews on it. Gladly, my parents allowed me to tap into my "rainy day" savings account, which has about $600 in it, I can use all of it if needed, but I will have to replenish it later when I have a job. So I might bite the bullet and order up some REAL paint, I have access to a booth too.

Rustoleum isn't bad paint. I did my pole, helmet, and 750 hull with that stuff. It looks similar once painted but after a few months, it won't be quite as brilliant of a color as it used to be unless you wash and wax it to restore the shine. If you're anything like me though, you'll inevitably want to change things up next year anyway so why buy top of the line paint that will last 20 years when you're going to sand it off in 1... Thinning paint is not rocket science. Typically you're going to spray it, you're looking to thin the paint to a consistency of about 1 drop per second off the stir stick after you've stirred the thinner into the paint. If it's too thin, add a little more paint. If it's too thick, add a little more thinner. My 750 has about 3 different batches of eye ball mixed gloss black rustoleum on it.You can't tell the difference even if you look. Now if you're mixing colors, you better mix enough to do the entire ski because you'll be hard pressed to get that color mixture the same unless you measure precisely.

Well if you access to a spray booth, why would you waste your time with rolling or spray paint? That's kind like saying, I have a Ferrari but it's 30 minutes away so I'm going to go to the racetrack in a minivan and hope it will work just as well. BTW, I've sprayed rustoleum with an air gun and it's dry to the touch in an hour but not fully cured until the next day. When I brushed the exact same paint in my engine bay, it was still tacky after a week.

If you use spray paint expect to pay upwards of $50-$100 in rattle cans and you'll get a lot of runs. If you roll it on, you'll have to block it, buff it, and then polish it. If you spray it with an air gun, you do a quick light coat followed by a wet coat. Then 15-20 minutes later you do another wet coat and you're done.

Well... I guess I will go with the real deal paint then.

What did you guys do where the two halfs meet on the bondline, near the edges and on the underside there is no gelcoat. would you guys fill that or not worry about it?

Mine is filled with bonding material all the way between both halfs, till ran out.l then cut the edge off to make the edges even.
lf yours has voids in it,l'd say fill it with 5200,unless someone has a better idea.

just along the bottom of the bond line, some places dont have gelcoat. kind of hard to see in the pic. Should I worry about it or just paint it over?

Im back to my solitary confinement space in the garage, I had whole car space, where our car trailer used to be, for about 3 days which was SUPER nice. But we have a new toy in the family arriving tomorrow. back to small space and working out in the driveway.

Shouldn't matter what you do on that bond line. You're going to have to scuff it before you install the turf anyway so the contact cement has a good surface to bond to.
