Awesome build! How close are you on flips? That motor looks so far forward.. Could be why it's hard.. I have an xft which is the predecessor to these hulls and the engine sits way back looks like 6" further?

Interesting. Yep my motor looks further forward than your setup. I'm not sure though how it could have been much closer in my hull though. My midshaft was already shorter than the stock length. If you have a chance, can you take a photo that shows the engine part and the tray so I can see what that looks like?

To answer your question about flipping, I haven't tried in about a month. Last weekend I practiced getting some good air. I didn't want to try flips because I was out alone.

Are you flipping your XFT with a stock 701 and B pipe or had further work done?

hi mate
my hull is all ordered now so hope to have it in a few weeks just a few things i need to ask you
the extra wear ring housing you bought from PJW was it all ready machined down on the pump shoe side or did you do this yourself ?
the mid shaft you bought from PJW was this also machined down ?
it looks like from your photos you have not bolted the extra pump shoe in place how is this held

thanks mate

There was no machining required in the wear ring housing. I'm not sure what would be machined. The midshaft was machined so it would press further into the midshaft. It was close but eventually I got it to fit. I guess you are asking how the extra wear ring is held in place? Essentially it is bolted to the hull and the gap between the wear ring and the pump shoe was sealed with 5200 (it was too tight to put the seal)

ok mate thanks
im ordering a Skat-Trak Set-Back Billet Magnum Pump next week and want as much info as i can get to make sure i dont forget anything as im onlu home for 2 weeks over xmas
how has the ski been now its been on the water a few times ?

I think its really hard to anticipate everything but I suppose it depends on what you have on hand. I've had the ski in the water the last few weekends. Overall its working well and I'm getting use to the different riding style. I bought some kayaking boots that wedge nicely in the footholds. My main issue remains that I need to have some work done on my engine. I'm looking into getting more power now (I'm just using a 701 bored to 754 right now). Have done lots of flops so far.

All sounds good then
So the hull looks and feels beautiful?
Me as I'm building this ski from scratch I'll put an 1100 in it from the start
I all ready have an octane and hydro spay so want a little more power although it will take some 6 months to build
Just need to pick other people's brain as to not mess it up

Nice
Iv spoken to Larry and said I'll do a write up and step by step photos of my build then send all info to him and put on here
Hopefully other will see that their is no point in spending 8000$ on a hill to get the same effect

I just boght the same hull and had a few questions.

For the rear pump location, how does the midshaft need to be modified?

How did you mount the wear ring?
Mine hull has the bolt holes but does not have a hole for the small peg on the wear ring.

If you are going for the extended pump you will need the additional wear ring
You will need to have the side of the wear ring that buts up to the intake duct machined down 6mm

Who did you buy your hull from ?
I bought mine from Larry at PJW and I asked him to supply the additional wear ring ($135 and $50 for machine work) and the mid shaft Larry supplied and machined down $92.50 plus machine work
All parts need to be from a pre 08 super jet

The wear ring if you all ready have grind it down yourself
Do you have the mid shaft ?
I have a photo Larry sent me I'll post it on here in 15 mins

regarding the mid shaft I would get Larry at PJW to sort it for you
I had the same concerns as your self and after chatting with larry on the phone I just asked him to do the mid shaft and pump wear ring

this is what Larry wrote to me

The pictures shown are of a 144 pump set up for the back position, for conversation purposes the 144, 155 are much the same. For the pump to be in the rear position you will need an additional impeller section. The liner is pressed to extend to the other side creating a tong and grove match between the two and the impeller housing is mounted in reverse so through bolts will thread into the threaded pad pads. You will need to find longer through bolts for this purpose used on larger pumps. The pump is bolted at the impeller section and reduction nozzle only, the additional section is attached to the pump shoe with 3M 5200.

For installation in the rear position the additional housing will need to be milled down on the side facing the pump shoe .250” or ¼”. When bolted down it should match the shoe opening.

I was not able to get the exact details about modifying the midshaft.

What is the deal with the wear ring? Mine wasn't ground at all.
