Im 19, and getting ready to graduate college with a Water Resource MNGT, and Enviornmental MNGT degree.

I have a job lined up in my home-town as a Water Filtration plant operator.

Start out at 40K a year.

Now all I need to do is write my highest state licenses in Water and wastewater treatment, along with my distribution licenses.

This should take a couple years while I make 40K.

Than i will be able to go just about anywhere to be a Utilities superintendent making 70-120K a year.

Networking companies that are wiring up high rise condos with cable, fiber optics, dsl connections, phone systems, security systems, ect seem to be growing fast because it's all one company doing the work instead of multiple sub contractors. Kinda like having all your eggs in one basket, but the builders get a discount.
It's all about the bottom line with the big companies, right?

If I were looking for a job, I would be persuing a sales job with a Networking company that is doing this kind of work. my .02

Been in the marines for 6 years... getting paid to fly around in helicopters aint bad... and all the marine bases are on the coast for the most part. 30 days paid vacation, plus you get pretty much every official holiday off and majority of weekends (Plenty of time to take out the ski) Full health care, Money for school if you get our, or they pay for your school while your in if you have time, on top of all the training they give you.
But then again not every one is up for going to Iraq and putting there life on the line. But you make alot of money when your over there.

stay in school, best advice I could give. If you can tolerate school go for it, you'll get farther with a degree than without one. At least most of the time anyways.

I have 2 semesters left until I'm a high school teacher. Despite what most people think, it's damn good pay in the Chicago suburbs, and summers off. What more could I ask for???

I really dunno... School and I never really got along too well. I would have to say a sales and marketing degree would help.
Prolly a good knowledge of Server systems and their applications that correlate with the programs that the company you’re wanting to work for uses could be a foot in the door. Study fiber optics, how it works, and its advantages.

I'd say this is my educated guess.... but then again, I'm not too educated.:ugh:

people are kool at tiems but in a business sense your the customer's lil biaatch
but i could proabbaly deal with em

One thing you'll learn, if you want to make money, you'll always be someone's 'lil biaatch'.

production worker = you work for the supervisor
supervisor = work for the manager
manager = work for the president
president = work for the owner
owner = work for the stockholders if public, if not, then for your customers

You just gotta learn where you'll feel comfortable, how far up you want to go, how much responsibility you can handle, etc.

Im in the same boat as you,

I work 35 hours a week in a cart barn, bag room, whatever. I make 8.00 an hour and started at 6.50. I get a raise every year of .50, so i have been there for three years. Im now 17 and still got the same job, in the season Nov - Mar, I average around 10 - 17 an hour in tips including my base pay. Gratuity is a beautiful thing. On most days im walking making up to 25$ an hour for what I can say is not a demanding job. I bust my a$$ for around 2 - 3 hours of a 7 hour shift, and walk making 100 in tips. Not bad, then I just live off my cash and the check goes in the bank :)

I just applied for FGCU awhile back and got in, My study is Civil Engineering and I think its a great field. I will get my degree in this field, but over the years i have been wanting to open up a business, not sure what yet. But some how i want to open one and run it. Its always been my dream.

Just my 0.02, and PSU is a great school buddy!

He's exactly right.

Being a doctor is no different than being a waiter. Same headaches, different pay.

Try to stay in school, you may actually learn something that you can use. Even if you don't, the corporate caste will not let you in without a four year degree. Its like the union card for the 21st century. Do not worry about being competent, VERY few really are, just try to look good and hone your BS skills.

That statement is soooo wrong. I'm involved in hiring, and it's pretty easy to tell who is bs'ing and who actually knows how to learn. If you've ever sat in on an interview with a good HR manager, you'd know what I mean.

You like skis- I say mechanical engineering... just be prepared to get to know math.... very very well. I say engineering and skis kinda goes together.... at least more than most other professions...

A old engineer told me this while I was in school: You will never get rich- but you will never have to worry very much about money either....
